BLAME GAME: Trump threatens RNC chair’s job

The MAGA crowd has decided that they don’t like RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, even though a previous attempt at ousting her failed.

McDaniel took her position as RNC Chair about the same time that Donald Trump took office as President of the United States, but she has outlasted him. In fact, Republicans supporting Trump held a vote last year, trying to replace her, and she overwhelmingly re-won her seat.

Nonetheless, Trump is unhappy with her, and MAGA extremists have blamed some of the failures of the party on her. Currently, she’s the avatar of a party-governing body that is being made a laughingstock for seeking new lines of credit, struggling with financial management, and failing to produce the “red wave” promised ahead of the last set of midterm elections.

Trump, who has also been blamed for helping his party lose elections, announced in a new interview that if he’s re-elected, removing her from party leadership may be on the agenda.  He said:

“I think she did great when she ran Michigan for me. I think she did okay initially in the RNC. I would say right now, uhhhh, there’ll probably be some changes made.”

Over a year ago, Trumpers tried to remove McDaniel. That effort came after a Trump ally, Harmeet Dhillon, accused McDaniel of indiscretions, including inappropriate spending of the RNC’s money, and of privately claiming she could “control” Trump, according to the Associated Press.

A vote was held, with McDaniel running to keep her seat, and both Mike Lindell and Harmeet Dhillon vying to oust her. McDaniel won her seat back, with 111 votes to Dhillon’s 51. Lindell received 4 votes, according to Politico.

Ronna has been controversial among other right-wing political figures, though. Kari Lake, who ran for Governor of Arizona and still falsely claims she won, has complained that McDaniel won’t meet with her. McDaniel, for her part, pointed the finger at Lake as an example of the problem the party has.

She said that Republican-on-Republican vitriol is a major reason the party didn’t win more seats in 2022, and cited Lake as an example, saying that she alienated voters with nasty rhetoric about former Senator John McCain, against whom Trump had long held a grudge.

Lake actually asked attendees at one of her rallies if anyone had voted for McCain, and said to “get out” if so, according to Newsweek.

Watch Trump threaten RNC Chair McDaniel’s job, if he’s re-elected.
