Trump just tweeted the most disgusting “joke” of his presidency

Trump took to Twitter tonight to poke fun on the concept of “global warming,” otherwise known as climate change, in a tweet as misguided as it is tone-deaf.

In effect, Trump is promoting his anti-science views to blatantly pander to his ever-shrinking base who think that a cold day is enough evidence to disprove climate change.

In actuality, the effects of climate change have been especially – and dangerously – present during Trump’s own tenure as president. During an unprecedented storm season, a slew of hurricanes ravaged the southeast United States and its territories in what quickly became the most expensive hurricane season in United States history.

Over 200 Americans have died between Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria alone. Experts agree that these devastating hurricanes were exacerbated by the effects of climate change.

While 97% of scientists agree that climate change is real and caused by human activity, Republicans have decided to make it a partisan issue, given the fossil fuel industry’s massive contributions to their campaigns.

It’s about time Americans who support Republicans realize that they’re being duped into disregarding scientific fact, all because their representatives want to keep accepting contributions from dirty energy companies. With his disgusting “joke,” Trump is leading that charge.
