Thursday proved to be a busy day for the tweeter in chief. He took to his favorite social media platform early and often, and left a little something something for everyone to enjoy.
He began the day with two of his greatest hits rolled into one tweet: An attack on Hillary Clinton and Vanity Fair magazine, which included a petty swipe at Anna Wintour, the longtime editor in chief of Vogue and now Artistic Director for all of Condé Nast’s publications, including Vanity Fair.
“Vanity Fair, which looks like it is on its last legs, is bending over backwards in apologizing for the minor hit they took at Crooked [Hillary],” the president’s tweet begins. “Anna Wintour, who was all set to be [ambassador] to [Great Britain] & a big fundraiser for CH, is beside herself in grief & begging for forgiveness!”
Later, he took credit for booming retail sales, (“you haven’t seen anything yet!”), attacked China (“Caught RED HANDED”) and tooted his own horn for predicting North Korea’s nuclear ascendency 23 years ago (“I’ve been saying it for a long, long time.”) as if he was the lone voice on the topic.
He even found time to both expose his utter ignorance on climate change and the global effort to combat its effects, tweeting a joke about “good old Global Warming” that would be embarrassing if he were a high school freshman, let a lone the commander in chief of the United States of America.
In between this flurry of sophomoric fortune cookie wisdom and adolescent attacks on two prominent women, the president snuck in a tweet that so completely reveals his vapidness and delusional self-awareness that we had to do a double take when he posted it.

At about 6:15 pm local time, Trump tweeted a triumphant graphic touting his daily approval rating as tabulated by notoriously Trump- and Republican-friendly Rasmussen Reports, which puts those who approve of his performance at 46% of respondents.

With more credible polls like Gallup and Pew Research Center listing him as low as 32% as recently as December 7, 46% creates a nice alternative fact for his supporters to hang their hats on.

But there’s still a problem: a 46% approval rating is still ATROCIOUS for a sitting president at the end of his first year in office. That means that over half of the country completely disapproves of his job performance.
Only a narcissist who has no clue or care about how he’s perceived out in the real world would brag about an approval rating that poor. Presenting such an obvious repudiation of his presidency as a victory shows contempt not only for the facts, but for the supporters he thinks he’s connecting with.
This tweet is the equivalent of an American Idol contestant absolutely bombing their audition, but still walking off stage uttering an audible self-congratulatory “nailed it!”
If ignorance is bliss, then president Trump must be the happiest man in the world today.
