CON-FLICT: Trump's criminal trial set just months before 2024 election

Donald Trump appeared by video at a pretrial hearing on Tuesday in the Manhattan DA’s criminal case against him involving the hush money payments he made to Stormy Daniels.

Trump was visibly upset after New York Judge Juan Manuel Merchan scheduled his criminal trial for March 25, 2024, a mere eight months before the critical Presidential election.

For the bulk of the hearing, Lil Trumpertantrum could be glimpsed on the screen with his arms folded like an overgrown toddler forced to sit at the table while the adults finish eating.

Judge Merchan advised Trump to “clear his calendar” and cancel “all other obligations” for the duration of the spring 2024 trial, which could last for several weeks.

That’s prime presidential primary season, and Donny 34 Indictments knows it.

Merchan’s orders truly hit Trump where he lives, smack dab in the center of the internet.

Merchan also issued a protective order barring Trump and his lawyers from “disseminating evidence to third parties or posting it to social media.”

The order requires that “certain sensitive material shared by prosecutors” be kept only by Trump’s lawyers, not Donny “Souvenir Top Secret Documents” himself.

Judge Merchan warned Trump (savor that mental image forever) that he risks being held in contempt if he uses evidence turned over by prosecutors in the pretrial discovery process to target witnesses or others involved in the case.

Considering how well Trump responds to rules, we’ll see how that last thing plays out while Trump’s team figures out how to build a campaign around a criminal trial.

I mean, this is how he reacted minutes after he was told he could leave the grownups’ table and go play:

The last line is actually true, but not in the way Dumb Donald means.

It’s also a gift handed to Ron DeSantis on a silver platter in the shape of Florida.

DeSantis is about to officially announce his 2024 Presidential campaign with Elon Musk on a Twitter Space — because we live in the dumbest times.

While Trump’s team sits around making up new nicknames for Puddin’ Pop, they might want to keep an eye on all of the other legal roadblocks to re-election.

Trump’s most recent legal loss for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll now has a sequel thanks to his CNN Town Hall appearance.

Then there’s the “imminent” (likely by September) indictments in connection with the election interference investigation led by Fulton County DA Fani Willis.

At some point, we expect more New York-based crimes with potential indictments from NY State Attorney General Letitia James in her continuing investigation of fraud by the Trump Organization.

And never sleep on Jack Smith, who’s been quietly collecting evidence in his federal investigation into both January 6th and Trump’s stolen documents.

Twitter has been ready for accountability for a long time, although let’s never think DeSantis is a preferable alternative.
