CRIMINALITY: MAGA wants a special "sanctuary state" to protect Donald Trump from charges

The best defense is a good offense, as the saying goes, and when it comes to being offensive, the MAGA-controlled Republican Party is always in the lead.

Currently, they’re seeking to protect their proclaimed leader, Donald Trump, from any of the charges against him that may be coming — and the methods they’re proposing should be a red flag when coming from any lawmaker.

Elected representatives are calling for the arrest of the District Attorney presiding over one of Trump’s investigations, and now they’re also demanding that the Governor of Florida — and Trump’s presumed opponent in the Republican presidential primary —somehow prevent the former president from facing charges in another state.

To be clear, there’s no indictment at this time and no word on “extradition” if Trump is indicted, likely in part because the U.S. Constitution actually has a clause requiring it between states.

Despite this, Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who has a degree from William & Mary Law School, is suggesting that Governor Ron DeSantis should ignore that constitutional requirement, and keep his state’s residents — or, one in particular — from being forced to face charges in “blue cities.” (Video below)

Perhaps no one actually expects Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to be quite so aware of Constitutional matters, but as an elected official, she too, should at least be aware that arresting a state District Attorney for pursuing an alleged perpetrator of a crime isn’t really on the menu.

That’s not stopping her from demanding that D.A. Alvin Bragg be arrested and making unsupported claims that it’s illegal for him to investigate and charge Trump.

She argued her point on Twitter:

Greene didn’t say what “exculpatory evidence” she believes Bragg is hiding, nor did she show any signs of understanding that, if such exists, Trump’s legal team can present it when and if he’s charged.

In fact, he was already invited to speak to the Grand Jury with any information he might want to share.

The Grand Jury’s purpose, however, is to determine whether there is enough evidence to press charges, not to make a final determination of guilt.

When and if there is an indictment, both sides will be able to make their cases.

Trump himself seems to share Gaetz’s sentiment about DeSantis, lashing out at him on social media for not stepping in (though Trump’s own attorneys say he plans to surrender when he’s indicted).
