SOFTBALL: Al Franken blows chance to hold Lindsey Graham accountable on “The Daily Show”

Al Franken is guest hosting "The Daily Show" this week and started with an overly-friendly interview of his old colleague Lindsey Graham.

Former Minnesota Senator Al Franken is often held up as an example of identity politics gone wrong, as we’re all old enough to remember the photo scandal that cost him his seat in Congress.

Whether you thought he got a raw deal or not, Franken always brings his special brand of humor and pragmatism when speaking out against the GOP, and he’s maintained that voice on his Twitter account as he continues to figure out how to remain a part of the national political conversation.

Franken is guest hosting “The Daily Show” this week as part of their test runs for a permanent replacement for the departed Trevor Noah, a great opportunity for the former “Saturday Night Live” regular.

However, he kicked off his week behind the desk by tossing softballs to his first guest and former colleague, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC via getting compromised on Donald Trump’s golf course) instead of holding him accountable for fully surrendering to Trump.

The two old pals essentially braided each other’s hair while chatting, with Franken reiterating his belief that ol’ “Leningrad Lindsey” is actually “the funniest person” he had ever met in Washington.

Yeah, this is just HILARIOUS, Al.

The two besties also talked about how they’re “aligned politically” when it comes to military support for Ukraine and then made a stupid $20 bet over “Trump vs Biden 2024.”

“I look at the policies of Trump, and I like the policies of Trump,” loyal lapdog Leningrad Lindsey proclaimed. “And at the end of the day, he’s got to prove to people, not me, that he’s able to lead us again, and that will be a challenge for him.”

Graham didn’t stop there, still playing to his audience of one as he weighed in on the looming indictments expected Tuesday in Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg’s office case against Trump for making hush-money payments to adult film actor Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign.

“Most people on our side think it’s a never-ending effort to take a wrecking ball” to Trump, Graham said. “So yeah, I think it’ll help him.”

HA HA HA YOU ARE GOING TO PRISON FOR A GUY WHO CANNOT STAND YOU, Linds.

Twitter essentially did the more proper guest hosting gig, so here’s how things should’ve gone for you, Al Franken.
