“Reichstag Ron” DeSantis is already turning Florida into 1933 Germany but with coastlines and theme parks, so Texas Governor Greg “I Hate Myself So I’m Going to Make You All Miserable Too” Abbott is now working overtime to top that.
Texas officials finally acted on their years of threats to control the eighth-largest public school district in the country, announcing the full state takeover of Houston’s schools on Wednesday, which set off an immediate firestorm from angry local Democrats.
Houston is a giant Blue oasis in the otherwise Red state, so it’s no surprise whatsoever that Authoritarian Abbott wants to push MAGA propaganda there more than anywhere else in his police state.

Other big cities (including Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Detroit) have seen school districts taken over by their states in the last decade, but only as last resort solutions for the “underperforming” schools.
Education experts point to past outcomes which showed little improvement following state interventions. And while the American public school system needs plenty of improving, the GOP’s ideas are never it.

Race is also an issue, of course. The overwhelming majority of the nearly 200,000-student population in Houston schools are Hispanic or Black.

It’s just another example of the deliberate dumbing-down of America as orchestrated by the racist Republicans, who would love nothing more than to have their Black and other communities of color receive the barest minimum when it comes to everything, but especially education.
