If you’re the kind of person who only watches the Super Bowl for the commercials, you might have been surprised to see an ad on Sunday called “He Gets Us” in between spots for soda pop and ice-cold beer featuring a lot of celebrities.
But it’s actually not a surprise, considering the target sportsball audience of testosterone-fueled dudebros who apparently are total sinners who need to get in touch with Jeebus during those time-outs.
At least, that’s what David “Gimme All of Your” Green, owner of Hobby Lobby (the craft store run by Crazy Christians who’ve decided everyone who doesn’t think the way do is going to burn in Hell forever) believes, and therefore he used his personal fortune and influence to force his shitty opinions on a very captive TV audience of millions.
Paid for by the “Servant Foundation” (sure, that doesn’t sound cult-y at all, nutballs) aka “The Signatry,” the “He Gets Us” ads portray the Son of the Invisible Sky Daddy as just like you or me: an outsider, a loner, a seeker of truth, etc.
Do you have questions? Hey, so did your Buddy Christ, kids!

Every religious organization is a for-profit cult using fear to control the willfully obtuse.
It genuinely hurts me to see otherwise autonomous people blindly believing in something that’s never been proven to exist because real life is too hard to face without some sort of crutch.

This atheist really couldn’t care any less if you want to be a compliant sheep incapable of individual thought because reality is too scary for you, but for Christ’s sake, keep your Biblical bullshittery out of the public space, Jesus freaks.
Hobby Lobby supports anti-LGBTQ legislation and its founder also led an extensive legal fight which eventually led to the Supreme Court allowing companies to deny medical coverage for contraception on the basis of religious beliefs.
What separation of Church and State?
Whose individual freedom of choice?
TAX THE CHURCHES ALREADY.
If you think Twitter was overreacting when the hatespots aired during The Big Game, here’s a typical ad from the Cult of Christ. Watch it, then we’ll unpack it.
So…can you tell me about a time someone who did a preachy Bible quote at you actually lived it themselves?
That’s what I thought.
Twitter users were rightfully roasting the religious rubes who choose ignorance over science just to make money.

The angry people in the faces of the protestors in those ‘He Gets Us’ commercials are the ones with “Christian” in their Twitter bios. Glossy expensive propaganda is still just polished lies paid for by Hobby Lobby working to take away our rights.

The organization behind the ‘Jesus’ commercials paid million to help overturn Roe and contributed to the Hobby Lobby decision. They have been actively trying to erase the separation of Church and State. Remember that. #SuperBowlLVII

Reminder: The Jesusy "He Gets Us" campaign is a truly toxic far-right effort—anti-LGBTQ, anti-abortion, etc. Ignore the gauzy social justice dressing. https://t.co/tZBOR7jIpf

I suggest you take a trip to your nearest Michael’s to buy the crafty things you need to make a big protest sign to hold in front of Hobby Lobby.
