LEADERSHIP SHAKEUP: First the MyPillow guy, now this woman also has her eyes on McDaniel's RNC gig

Ronna Romney McDaniel’s position as the Chair of the Republican National Committee is in jeopardy as the GOP examines what went wrong in the midterm elections.

Increasingly, her party is expressing disappointment in her, and Harmeet Dhillon, a Trump-connected attorney who has already held leadership positions in the party, is the second challenger to emerge.

Dhillon says that she’s been contacted by a spate of voters and party officials indicating that after “successive disappointing election cycles,” it’s time to consider a change in leadership, and, while she hasn’t yet officially declared, she’s considering a bid to be that change.

She’s not the only one — MyPillow Guy Mike Lindell has also said that he’s being urged to run for RNC Chair.

Dhillon, however, has a few advantages over Lindell, including her experience as former Vice Chair for California’s GOP, and the fact that unlike the Pillow Guy, she won’t be running while attempting to fend off defamation lawsuits incurred by spreading false claims about voting machines and the company that builds them.

McDaniel, meanwhile, is the only candidate who has officially declared so far.

Lindell said on Steve Bannon’s podcast that he’s “100% running” and “all in,” which falls short of an official announcement, and Dhillon has indicated that her decision and announcement could come sometime this week.

Via Politico:

[McDaniel’s] allies say she has already received commitments of support from more than 100 members — more than the majority of votes she would need…People close to Dhillon, however, insist that McDaniel’s support is soft and that she could win over those who are unhappy with the party’s disappointing showing in this year’s midterms.

Dhillon spoke to Fox News about her intent, saying that she believes “We owe it to our voters to have an honest dialogue about the direction of our party and what needs to change for us to win in 2024.”

Her law firm has represented Trump, and Dhillon has not publicly weighed in on whether his involvement in elections, both as candidate and endorser, is one of the problems her party needs to fix if they hope to win future elections — especially the 2024 presidential election.
