CRUZ WHINE: Ted temporarily finds his spine and criticizes Trump

If Donald Trump is going to rake in millions of dollars in donations for his Save America PAC, he should be spreading it around to candidates running in midterms, Ted Cruz says. It’s a rare moment when the Senator from Texas actually speaks up to criticize the self-appointed leader of the Republican Party.

Save America PAC is reportedly under investigation, in fact, with several individuals connected to it receiving subpoenas in September to share information about the formation, fundraising, and spending carried out by the PAC. Cruz’s concerns, while perhaps from a different angle, seem to overlap with those of a Federal Grand Jury.

Speaking on his Verdict podcast, Cruz complained that the PAC has pulled in over $100 million in donations from supporters who likely believe their money will help elect MAGA candidates. Instead, he complains, candidates whose campaigns could use the boost are being left out in the cold.

In fact, the PAC has dropped $5k each on a total of around 150 candidates, including both House and Senate races, and another $150k to other political organizations — that all adds up to less than a million total in direct donations, out of more than 100 times that much taken in.

Watch Ted Cruz lay out his complaint below, arguing that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is only supporting anti-Trump candidates, and Trump is failing to throw his support behind the more extreme MAGA politicians running.

OpenSecrets‘ documentation for Save America PAC lists $10 million in campaign contributions, and another $9 million in “unclassifiable” expenses, as well as $3 million in salaries, another $3 million in media expenses, and various other payouts. As of an October 19th report, the PAC had $69 million in cash on hand.

Where is the money going, if not to candidates? The grand jury investigating the January 6th attack and related election interference wants to know, too.

From a September ABC report:

“The subpoenas, sent to several individuals in recent weeks, are specifically seeking to understand the timeline of Save America’s formation, the organization’s fundraising activities, and how money is both received and spent by the Trump-aligned PAC…Trump and his allies have consistently pushed supporters to donate to the PAC, often using false claims about the 2020 election and soliciting donations to rebuke the multiple investigations into the former president, his business dealings, and his actions on Jan. 6.”

Trump is speculated to be planning to officially launch his own political campaign, another bid for the White House, at some point after the midterm elections.
