In a very Florida incident, a Republican Florida man running for re-election tweeted that one of his staffers had been “brutally attacked” while canvassing for his campaign. And in a very Florida response, the local police were able to prove just how false the claims had been. Sen. “Liddle” Marco Rubio (R-FL), whose mom lets him stay up until ten on the weekends, lost to Rep. Val Demings in a debate last week, so now he has to lean into lying and blaming any violence he can on Democrats.
The real story, according to a Florida news station: Police arrested a 22-year-old man accused of attacking a canvasser handing out political flyers on Sunday evening in Hialeah. According to the police report, the victim was distributing flyers at about 6:30 p.m. when Javier Lopez attacked him. The victim was campaigning for Rubio and had crossed the street to avoid Lopez, the report states. The victim told Lopez that he was campaigning on public property and could be there if he wanted to. Police said after further arguing, Lopez rushed towards the staffer, grabbing him and slamming him to the ground.

Investigators wrote that another person, who left the scene before officers arrived, started kicking Lopez in the face. Police said Lopez then started punching the canvasser multiple times, causing “severe swelling” on the right side of his face, causing the victim’s right eye to be “completely shut” from the damage, and causing “severe swelling and bleeding” from his mouth.
With high confidence we are calling that the @marcorubio canvasser who was attacked + hospitalized last night was Christopher Monzon aka the “Cuban Confederate” who has a well documented history of advocating white supremacy — AND deep involvement in Miami GOP politics. https://t.co/mp8serxg4M pic.twitter.com/I8N4Z5wy3h

Rubio’s reaction was to blame it on politics. “Last night one of our canvassers wearing my T-shirt and a (DeSantis) hat was brutally attacked by (four) animals who told him Republicans weren’t allowed in their (Hialeah) neighborhood,” Rubio tweeted late Monday morning. “He suffered internal bleeding, a broken jaw & will need facial reconstructive surgery.”
Hey @marcorubio, is this your campaign staffer wearing the uniform of white supremacist group League Of The South at the deadly 2017 Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville, saying "They will not replace us"?

But the Hialeah police arrest report obtained by Local 10 News makes no mention of any additional attackers or any stated political motivation.
So, I’m forced to believe Rubio or the police? That’s a tough one … pic.twitter.com/HzbRIGsI6M
