An Arizona Republican running for a spot on the Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board was charged with public sexual indecency after he was seen masturbating near a preschool.
Former prison supervisor Randy Gene Kaufman was caught in the act by an officer on duty for the Maricopa County College’s Police Department.
“Seriously?” asked the officer upon encountering Kaufman in flagrante delicto.
“I’m sorry. I fucked up. I’m really stressed,” Kaufman said.
Kaufman was approached mid-act by Officer Jay Gilbreth, who noticed the suspect’s vehicle had been illegally parked for an extended period of time. In a maroon Ford F-150 parked across three spaces, the Trump-supporting Republican was “engrossed in his activity and did not see me at the passenger side door,” the officer recollected.
According to Officer Jay Gilbreth’s affidavit:
“As I approached the Ford from the front passenger door side, from approximately six feet away, I observed an adult male-identified in this report as AP1, Randy Gene Kaufman sitting in the front driver’s seat. AP1 was wearing a green t-shirt and jeans. AP1 appeared to be looking at a cell phone in one hand. I immediately became alarmed as I saw AP1 had his pants down mid-thigh, and was exposed showing his fully erect nude penis.”
Further alarming for Officer Gilbreth was not only the suspect’s visibility while masturbating – but the fact that he was doing it less than 200 feet from Wirtzel’s Preschool and Child Care Center. Gilbreth said in the affidavit he “saw several preschool-age children having outdoor activities in the playground.”
Once aware, a startled and embarrassed Kaufman, grabbed a cloth from the passenger seat and covered himself.
“Did you not see me walking up to your passenger door,” Gilbreth asked.
“No, I didn’t see you until you got to my driver’s door,” Kaufman answered.
“You realize I saw you with your penis out and you were masturbating, don’t you?” Gilbreth further inquired.
“Yes,” Kaufman replied.
The suspect was reportedly watching pornography on the phone when Officer Gilbreth spotted him.
According to Law & Crime:
Officer: “I saw you had your phone out while you were doing what you were. What was going on with the phone?”
[Kaufman]: “I was watching porn.”Officer: “What kind of porn were you watching?”
[Kaufman]: “Interracial porn.”Officer: “When you look around here what do you see?”
[Kaufman]: “The child center but I didn’t notice it until you came up and I got out of my truck. Are you going to put that in a report?”Officer: “Don’t you see how alarming that is? That there are children nearby, people passing on bikes and In cars where they can look and see what you are doing?”
[Kaufman]: “I fucked up.”
That would be an understatement.
The affidavit concluded with the officer on site issuing Kaufman a citation, rather than arresting him. According to Gilbreth, Kaufman “intentionally, knowingly, and recklessly engaged in an act of sexual contact in an area where people (society/public) were present and could reasonably alarmed, or offended by the act.”
