OPINION: This Jewish American knows Donald Trump hates Jews, do you?

TRUTH CONFESSIONS: Former guy's latest rant is a window into his panicked psyche

Writer’s note: I may have the most Irish name in the world, but I am a Jewish American (the princess part is debatable). And while I’m an atheist, it still fires up this Jersey Girl whenever I see antisemitism. And OY, have I been seeing a whole extra lot of that lately, which I’ve already written about here. The recent increase in hate speech against Jewish Americans is noticeable and notable even after literal millennia of being among the most persecuted people in global history.

The pervasive antisemitism in our culture is baffling to me. I grew up “comfortable” but in no way rich. My father wasn’t some media mogul or banker, he drove a truck in New Jersey. I’m delighted to be writing for Occupy Democrats, but if the basic myths behind the antisemitic tropes which are still somehow socially acceptable in 2022 (think I’m exaggerating? MEL GIBSON. Shush now, tateleh) were true, I’d have a sweet book and film deal right now instead of counting every penny and sweating every approaching rent day. Seriously, I am living proof Jews don’t “control” anything. Or at least, no Jews that I know.

That’s a post from Donald Trump on his flailing Truth Social garbage app, dear reader. That’s what we call “dog-whistling” or “virtue signaling” while also calling it antisemitism. Because Donald Trump hates Jews. Oh, is his son-in-law one, MAGA? Oh, did his daughter convert to Judaism? Do you think maybe those two things happened out of pure rebellion against her Daddy for some reason (here’s a hint: maybe Vanky finally learned abuse isn’t love, and we will leave that right there for now).

It’s not just Trump, of course. You may have heard about Kanye West recently threatening and blaming Jews for lots of things we didn’t do. Ice Cube has also posted a whole lot of antisemitic tropes on his Twitter account. I’d prefer to be allied with the Black community because together we threaten the hell out of mediocre white Republicans, but we can’t have so many nice things anymore.

The only way we fight these hateful tropes is by continuing to shine a light on those that keep using them. No one is born hating anyone. Again, I have to wonder what this country would look like if Donald Trump’s parents were tolerant and loving people instead of passing their prejudices along to him through their tainted bloodlines. That’s a not-very-veiled threat up there. “Before it’s too late” means what, exactly?

Also, anyone paying attention knows this isn’t new news. Trump’s hateful history speaks for itself, because we have him speaking it. Here are three videos from 2019, 2020, and earlier this year.

We only need to use their own words against them, so I’ll be over here staying firmly anti-Nazi and writing about it every time I see hate speech from elected officials who have influence over really gullible people who punch first and never ask questions later. Join me, shall you, please?
