LINE IN SAND: Why a Joe Biden speech got MAGA panties in a knot

LINE IN SAND: Why a Joe Biden speech got MAGA panties in a knot

President Joe Biden didn’t hold back his contempt and disdain for MAGA Republicans in a fiery speech in front of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA on Thursday, saying, “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.” He addressed issues of concern to those who love and respect our democracy like the rise in political violence and election deniers who refuse to accept the results of November 3, 2020.

Biden called those who continue to push the big lie “a clear and present danger to our democracy.”

“MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election, and they’re working right now as I speak in state after state to give power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies, empowering election deniers to undermine democracy itself,” the President said.

But he also reminded his audience that though democracy is fragile, it is in our hands, “We must never forget: We, the people, are the true heirs of the American experiment that began more than two centuries ago,” Biden said.

With a red background, an American flag, and two marines behind him POTUS, looked very much like one would expect the leader of the free world to look. His words were strong, powerful, patriotic, and motivating – though Trump and his MAGA cult didn’t think so. They wasted no time trashing Biden’s speech – from his words to his having the presence of members of our armed forces during his speech.

Seemingly forgotten is Trump’s use of the National Guard to gas those peacefully protesting police brutality and his turning of the White House lawn into a Republican National Committee fundraiser in violation of the Hatch Act.

CNN anchor Brianna Keilar was quickly roasted after saying it was “wrong” for President Biden to use Marines in the background, with Parker Molloy pointing out the hypocrisy.

Another user reminded Keilar that POTUS is the leader of the armed forces:

Rep. Dan Lamborn (R-CO) accused the President of “dividing” the country with his speech:

But White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was having none of it. The successor to former Press Secretary Jen Psaki – known for her strong comebacks, and no-nonsense style – said the speech was “standing up for democracy, not political” and said the presence of the Marines was intentional, the Marine Corps Times reported.

She went on to say:

“[It] was to demonstrate the deep and abiding respect the president has for these service members and the unique role our independent military plays in defending our democracy, no matter which party is in power. It is not abnormal. It is actually normal for presidents from either side of the aisle to give speeches in front of members of the military, including President Donald Trump, Ronald Reagan and President George H.W. Bush. It is not an unusual sight.”

During his campaign, then-Presidential candidate Biden said we were in a “battle for the soul of the nation,” and he built on that Thursday evening.

“I’m an American President–not a President of Red America or Blue America, but ALL of America.”

POTUS urged Americans to work together and move forward together. “That’s why tonight I’m asking our nation to come together, unite behind the single purpose of defending our democracy regardless of your ideology, Biden said.

“And now America must choose: to move forward or to move backwards?  To build the future or obsess about the past?  To be a nation of hope and unity and optimism, or a nation of fear, division, and of darkness? MAGA Republicans have made their choice.  They embrace anger.  They thrive on chaos.  They live not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies. But together — together, we can choose a different path.  We can choose a better path.  Forward, to the future.  A future of possibility.  A future to build and dream and hope,” the President continued.

Using her official congressional Twitter account – her personal one was permanently banned in 2021 – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) posted a deep fake video of President Biden with Hitler’s face.

Considering she spoke at an actual neo-Nazi rally with well-known White supremacist Nick Fuentes, I’ll pass on the hypocrisy.

At the end of the day, President Joe Biden’s speech was the fire we needed to see from our head of state. As fascism rises across the world, a country once thought immune from its authoritarian grasp – we are now teetering on the edge of totalitarianism.

The left has been yelling for the Democratic Party to “do something” in the face of increased violence and hateful rhetoric from the right – and it looks like President Biden has gotten the assignment. His speech was not only motivating and inspiring but patriotic at the deepest level.

“We are still an America that believes in honesty and decency and respect for others, patriotism, liberty, justice for all, hope, possibilities. We are still, at our core, a democracy,” Biden declared.

“As your president, I will fight for democracy with every fiber of my being, and I’m asking every American to join me,” Biden challenged the nation.

I most certainly will Mr. President.
