AUTHORITARIAN RANT: Trump delivers unhinged CPAC speech in full Mussolini style

Donald Trump was in rare form during his speech at CPAC in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, delivering a rambling rant that covered everything from a ludicrous plan to eliminate the Dept. of Education to phony claims of looming caravans of dangerous immigrant refugees to concentration camp-like plans to move the homeless to tent cities on the outskirts of urban areas. The ex-president wasted no time inflating his own ego while attacking everyone else.

Despite the abundance of lies and idiocy, the most cringe moment of the evening came when Trump went  off script and proclaimed that former White House doctor Ronny Jackson (R-TX) “loved looking at my body.”

In true Trump fashion, the disgraced former president gaslighted the crowd with baseless claims that gasoline had reached over $8 a gallon in California. In actuality, while some gas stations may be taking advantage of the public with exorbitant price hikes, the average price for regular petrol in California currently sits at around $5.47, according to AAA. Trump knows that his MAGA crowd doesn’t care about facts.

Back at his 2019 CPAC appearance, Trump criticized the Green New Deal – which isn’t a thing – telling the crowd nearly three years ago,

“When the wind stops blowing, that’s the end of your electric. Let’s hurry up. ‘Darling – Darling, is the wind blowing today? I’d like to watch television, darling.’ No, but it’s true.”

Except it’s not true.

Yesterday, Trump blamed the Green New Deal for today’s elevated energy prices – still not a thing, considering that the Russian war in Ukraine is responsible for much of the price increases. MAGA supporters cheered the ex–President’s remarks.

Trump also touted his plan to move the homeless out of the city and further marginalize a vulnerable population. It’s an outrageous suggestion that’s par for the course for Trump, and, unfortunately, the support of his base for the idea is an indication of the trajectory that parts of our nation are moving towards.

After almost two hours of speaking while throwing red meat to his base – Trump fell back upon his baseless claims of winning the 2020 election, continuing to claim that it was stolen from him.

Trump’s speech was eaten up by the CPAC crowd in Dallas, but there are signs that his allure is waning as his schtick starts to get stale.

A young conservative group, Students for Life, is jumping off the Trump train, with one member of the group saying:

“I see a lot of younger people who don’t have a lot of respect for Trump, because of the way he carries himself.”

We could offer quite a few more reasons for them to condemn the twice-impeached former president, but we’ll let the House Select Committee and the Justice Department complete that task for us.
