The hits just keep on coming for Rudy Giuliani. Already under scrutiny for his involvement in trying to overturn the 2020 election results, the disgraced attorney can add one of his former spouses to the list of those out for justice and accountability.
Judith Giuliani, the third ex-wife of the former NYC mayor, has accused her former spouse of failing to comply with the terms of their 2019 divorce settlement. She is now seeking $262,000 from her former husband, and Giuliani apparently has only two options – pay up or go to jail.
According to Judith Giuliani’s attorney Dror Bikel:
“If he doesn’t make the payment, then she will seek incarceration,” Bikel told VICE News. “It’s no to be punitive but to make him fulfill his obligation. They have an agreement, and he’s supposed to fulfill his agreement.”
Documents filed in New York Superior Court on Tuesday asked the judge to hold Donald Trump’s longtime friend and former counsel in contempt of court if he fails to pay.
As part of the divorce settlement, Giuliani agreed to pay his soon-to-be ex-wife $200,000 if a Palm Beach, Florida condo they owed didn’t sell within two years, as well as providing $5,000 a month to Judith Giuliani to cover a personal assistant or housekeeper.
Per the filing, the monthly payments were inconsistent, and only $60,000 towards the condo – which still hasn’t sold – has been paid.
Robert Costello, the attorney for the troubled insurrectionist, disputes the accuracy of the claims.
“The assertions are not accurate, but beyond that, this is a personal matter that I cannot comment on,” he wrote in a statement.
Married in a 2003 wedding at Gracie Mansion – presided over by then-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg – the couple divorced 16 years later.
Though the former Mrs. Giuliani has accused her ex-husband of trying to avoid paying what he owes her by not taking payment from his client Donald Trump while working to push Trump’s baseless claims of voter fraud, she believes that Rudy has the money to pay up.
“He owns multiple properties in New York City and Palm Beach,” the affidavit in her suit states. “Upon information and belief, he has significant earnings from his media-related contracts and deals.”
Rudy Giuliani has been a central figure — and material witness — in several civil and criminal investigations surrounding the Jan. 6th Capitol riot. Witnesses have testified to his involvement in trying to overturn Biden’s win, acting on Trump’s behalf.
This latest lawsuit from his third ex-wife is just a small portion of Giuliani’s current legal troubles. A New York judge ordered Giuliani to testify before a special grand jury in Fulton County Georgia on August 9th, and a $1.3 billion lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems is still ongoing.
