DIRTY POOL: Trump looks ready to pull a WICKED power play on FL Gov. Ron DeSantis

Donald Trump is considering launching the announcement of his 2024 presidential campaign near the home of former ally-turned-competitor Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The campaign launch event would come complete with fireworks and all the spectacle we’ve come to associate with the attention-seeking, narcissistic, twice-impeached Trump.

According to Rolling Stone, Trump wants to show DeSantis “who the boss is.” DeSantis is rumored to be making a play for the White House, and his popularity among trump’s MAGA supporters is rising. Recent polls have shown DeSantis beating Trump in the polls and this just isn’t sitting well with the MAGA King.

On June 5th, Fox News tweeted:

DeSantis’ popularity isn’t sinking in with Trump, with sources close to the self-centered ex-president telling Rolling Stone that if he runs, his followers will abandon DeSantis for Trump because DeSantis is “boring,” “overrated,” and terrible at public speaking.

While Ron DeSantis has yet to formally announce his intention of running for the Republican presidential nomination, one person convinced he’s going to run is Trump ally Roger Stone. The longtime GOP operative— and convicted felon, later pardoned by Trump – hasn’t been shy in his distrust of DeSantis. Stone posted a video on Telegram, wherein he tells Trump that DeSantis is a “piece of s**t.”

I reached out to Stone via text, to ask what he thought about DeSantis running. His response:

“Ron is running. He better pay attention to 2022 before he addresses 2024. DeSantis has to get reelected Governor which by no means is a certainty, before he can run in 2024.”

While that seems logical, the disgraced ex-president is known for anything but logic. Petty is more his style, and his obsession with total fealty will always win out. Especially with many — Trump included – believing it was Trump’s endorsement of DeSantis that secured his gubernatorial win.

POLITICO reported in 2018, that, until Trump’s endorsement, DeSantis was trailing Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam in the polls. DeSantis’ campaign gained steam after Trump’s endorsement – making it a prominent feature of his platform and touting it in ads. That election bump is something that Trump will likely hold against the man who is seen as his biggest competitor — and largest obstacle — on the road to securing the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

With Trump facing civil and criminal investigations led by New York Attorney General Letitia James and Fulton County DA Fani Willis, and as the January 6th investigation exposes more of Trump’s lies and fraud surrounding his stolen election claims – including accusations of fleecing his supporters out of half a billion dollars for a nonexistent Election Defense Fund – Trump may sooner be running for cover, than for a return to office.
