Just when you thought Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene couldn’t get any more unhinged, she outdoes herself.

While sitting down for an interview with far-right catholic activist Michael Voris of extremist group Church Militant, Greene announced that Christian organizations that help newly arrived undocumented immigrants and refugees to the United States are under the demonic control of Satan himself.

Voris complains during the interview that religious leaders and organizations have received funding from the government to help refugees and immigrant populations, to which Greene bizarrely replies that she “thought we had a separation of church and state.” How any of this violates the doctrine of separation of church and state is left unexplained by Greene.

At this point, Greene goes full out insane by declaring, “what it is, is Satan’s controlling the church. The church is not doing its job, and it’s not adhering to the teachings of Christ, and it’s not adhering to what the word of God says we’re supposed to do and how we’re supposed to live.”

Masquerading as a foreign policy expert, Greene then says we should hold the foreign countries from which undocumented immigrants are arriving in the United States “accountable” by cutting off foreign aid, “Oh, I’m sorry, Guatemala, you’re not getting a check this year because you’ve sent X number of thousands and tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands and millions of people to illegally invade our country as if they’re an army.” As usual, Greene continues to paint undocumented people fleeing desperate conditions and violence as a barbarian horde massing on the southern border, ready to pillage the United States. It’s pretty disgusting and most definitely racist.

To finish the interview, Greene takes it upon herself to give a little bit of theological advice to Catholic bishops. “The bishops of Catholic relief charities and services, they should be all in support of that,” She declares. “If the bishops were reading the Bible and truly preaching the word of God to their flock and not covering up child sex abuse and pedophilia, loving one another would have the true meaning and not the perversion and the twisted lie that they’re making it to be.”

My advice for Greene is to actually take some time to read the bible. She could brush up on passages like this that preach compassion and kindness towards immigrants:

  • “You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” —Deuteronomy 10:19
  • “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.” — Leviticus 19:34
  • “‘Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow.’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’” — Deuteronomy 27:19
  • “When they were few in number, of little account, and strangers in the land, wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people, he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account, saying, ‘Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.’” — 1 Chronicles 16:19-22
  • “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” — Matthew 25:35
  • “Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.” — Romans 12:13
  • “Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.” — Zechariah 7:9-10

That’s just a few, there are more but I think I made my point.

Catholics have responded with outrage at Greene’s comments disparaging the Church. “She had plenty of opportunities to make rational criticisms of the agency, but instead she slandered the entire Catholic Church,” read a statement from Catholic League President Bill Donahue, who is not known for readily criticizing Republicans.

Greene is no stranger to controversy or conspiratorial thinking. In 2018, she blamed California wildfires on “Jewish space lasers” controlled by a corporate cabal, including the Rothschild banking firm.

“If they are beaming the sun’s energy back to Earth, I’m sure they wouldn’t ever miss a transmitter right??!! I mean mistakes are never made when anything new is invented. What would that look like anyway? A laser beam or light beam coming down to Earth I guess. Could that cause a fire? Hmmm, I don’t know. I hope not! That wouldn’t look so good for PG&E, Rothschild Inc, Solaren, or Jerry Brown who sure does seem fond of PG&E.”

That’s from a real Facebook post that Green wrote and published. This is a sitting member of Congress.

In February, Greene came under fire again after she spoke alongside Rep. Gosar of Arizona at the America First Political Action Conference, an event organized by actual white nationalists and neo-nazis.

In what has become a pattern of craven behavior for Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, he refused to condemntheir appearances or bring any repercussions on the pair that would show that his caucus doesn’t stand with bigots and white nationalists.

Is it any surprise that Greene continues to parrot hateful and bigoted things whenever a camera or microphone is put in front of her?
