It seems like unhinged conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is trying to catch a break.

His media company Infowars is under siege after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection due to defamation lawsuits brought forward by parents of children who were killed in the Sandy Hook shooting that might have the company on the hook for up to $10 million in liabilities. Jones claimed that the school shooting that claimed the lives of 20 first-graders and six teachers was a false flag operation meant to set the stage for a legislative assault against the Second Amendment.

That’s just the beginning of trouble for Jones. The New York Times reported that he is seeking an immunity deal from the federal government that would allow him to avoid criminal prosecution in exchange for information regarding the planning of the January 6th riots. The Justice Department is reportedly discussing the terms of the deal with Jones.

Making a deal with the feds is not really a good look for Jones after decades of insane conspiracy theories regarding the federal government, like chemicals in the water turning frogs gay. His lawyer is explaining the whole thing away as Jones playing some sort of third-dimensional chess because he “distrusts the government.” Right.

This new, more tame version of Jones, is a far cry from his previously defiant stance against the House select committee investigating the January 6th riots. He had threatened to sue the committee and said on his radio show that he was deposed and that he exercised his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination “almost 100 times.”

The news about Jones’ willingness to cooperate seems to signal that the federal probe into the January 6th riots is picking up steam. Another “Stop the Steal” organizer, Ali Alexander, who is close with Jones, recently received a subpoena in relation to the investigation.

At least 818 people have been charged over the riots that saw Trump’s supporters smear their feces on the U.S. Capitol walls while chanting “hang Mike Pence.” Elmer Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers, and 10 associates have been charged with “seditious conspiracy.”

It seems like Alex Jones’ antics might finally be catching up to him.
