“A slap in the face” — Fox News staffers aren’t happy about the hiring of Trump’s former press secretary

The announcement from Fox News that former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany would be joining their on-air staff as a political commentator is not going over well within the confines of the right-wing media outlet’s own walls.

According to The Daily Beast, staffers at Fox News — already concerned about the recent reshuffling of the programming grid that has seen what remains of the channel’s “hard news” operation decimated in favor of more hours of opinionated talking heads spouting right-wing extremist propaganda — are apoplectic over the hiring of the polarizing McEnany, judging from the ferocity of the news channel’s insiders’ response to the announcement.

“It’s truly disgusting they fired hard-working journalists who did care about facts and news reporting only to turn around and hire a mini-Goebbels whose incessant lies from the White House helped incite an insurrection on our democracy that got five people killed, including a police officer,” a Fox News staffer complained to The Daily Beast. “Post-Trump Fox is quickly becoming a very scary place and quite dangerous for our democracy. It’s not even conservative news anymore. They’ve plunged into an alternate reality where extremist propaganda is the only course on the menu.”

In other words, Post-Trump Fox News is just like the channel was during the Trump administration, just worse.

“It’s upsetting,” a current Fox News employee raged to The Daily Beast. “So many good people are out of a job now and I’m sure she’ll get a huge contract.” The hiring makes sense, however, in this employee’s mind, because “Sarah Sanders just left to run for governor of Arkansas and our audience loves Kayleigh.”

Replacing one lie-mongering former White House Press Secretary with another from the same mold may seem to make some sort of perverse sense if you’re a Fox News executive, but it’s certainly not the best way to boost the morale of existing employees, judging from the reactions that The Daly Beast garnered in their discussions with current staffers at the channel.

“It bothers me in that it is basically a slap in the face to the hardworking journalists that value real news and facts. But it also doesn’t surprise me because they have shown that they don’t give a damn about facts and real news,” said one employee in the hard news division.

“There is no objectivity in this business anymore. It’s a self-serving profiteering enterprise,” another staffer complained, before adding that the appeal of McEnany to the network’s senior executives stems from her “name recognition, notoriety, an obvious willingness to say anything her employer desires. The viewers are morons,” they astutely noted.

Or maybe Fox News viewers are simply happy to watch whatever is put in front of them, making the network’s constant promotion of lies about everything from the COVID pandemic to the election results even more evil and egregious.

Some observers attributed the move by the network to re-emphasize opinion over hard news as a reaction to its recent ratings decline, which saw Fox News in third place among 24-hour news networks for the first time in 20 years.

“The channel is trying not to lose even more viewers,” one employee remarked. “They are grasping at straws on how to keep the viewership they built and fueled over the last four plus years with Trump at the forefront.

“It has become about keeping viewers and they will do anything to do that, including blatantly lying and selling their souls and integrity to the devil.”

Business as usual, in other words.

Now with perky blond, practiced liar McEnany on board they can continue their mission of distorting reality for another few years while stoking opposition to the Biden administration.
