“Paralyzed with fear” — Republicans moan that they’re too frightened of their base to impeach Trump

As America still reels from the seditious attack on Congress last week by violent domestic terrorists intent on overturning the results of our legitimate presidential election, the Republican Party finds itself on the defensive, with many members still making excuses for the man who egged on the unruly mob and initially refused to call in the National Guard to protect the threatened lawmakers.

According to one Democratic Congressman, many of his GOP colleagues are continuing to defend Donald Trump not out of any particular loyalty to him, but out of abject fear for their own safety and that of their families.

According to Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO), “a very small handful” of his Republican counterparts “are morally bankrupt individuals who have given into these conspiracy theories and are too far gone to be redeemed,” Rep. Crow said during an interview on MSNBC‘s Meet the Press, without naming those who might fit into this category.

The rest of the GOP caucus, however, the congressman says — the majority of them, he believes — “are paralyzed with fear.”

“I had a lot of conversations last night with my Republican colleagues last night and a couple of them broke down in tears, talking to me and saying that they are afraid for their lives if they vote for this impeachment,” Rep. Crow revealed.

The Colorado Democrat had mixed feelings about the sudden transformation of blustering GOP partisan stalwarts into deer frozen in the headlights of onrushing history.

“My response was, not to be unsympathetic, but, welcome to the club,” Congressman Crow said, offering scant pity.

“That’s leadership. Our country is in a challenging time. Many of us have felt that way for a long time because we stood up for our democracy, and we expect them to do the same.”

Representative Crow went on to vow to act to impeach Trump — despite the threats that have left the majority of his GOP colleagues frightened and quivering in inaction — because of the scheming president’s incitement of an active domestic terror threat.

“We have to do what’s necessary to protect the American people,” Crow concluded.

Exactly how many petrified Republicans will find their patriotism and fulfill their duties to protect and defend the Constitution remains to be seen.

Any legislator, however, who caves-in to fear and intimidation, rather than conducting their representative duties in accordance with the law and their own moral principles doesn’t deserve the seat to which they were elected.

Hopefully, voters will remember the paralysis of these cowardly members of the GOP when the next election cycle rolls around in 2022.

As for those “morally bankrupt individuals” mentioned by Congressman Crow, they should be ejected from Congress as per the 14th Amendment which states:

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
