Ocasio-Cortez takes a stand for women and publicly tears into Ted Yoho from the floor of Congress

Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL) had no idea what he was in for when he tried to mess with AOC.

After refusing to accept his performative and disgraceful non-apology for accosting the New York representative on the steps of Capitol Hill and calling her a “f*cking b*tch,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez used a point of personal privilege on the floor of Congress to publicly tear into Rep. Yoho for the arrogant insincerity of his “apology.”

Yoho denied that he had used any sexist slurs and refused to apologize for the “passion” he feels about those afflicted by poverty because he claimed he himself had used food stamps at one point in his life. “I will commit to each of you that I will conduct myself from a place of passion and understanding that policy and political disagreement be vigorously debated with the knowledge that we approach the problems facing our nation with the betterment of the country in mind and the people we serve. I cannot apologize for my passion or for loving my God, my family and my country” said Yoho in his non-apology.

This, of course, is bullshit, and Ocasio-Cortez rightfully called it out as such.

In a powerful speech, Ocasio-Cortez sent a message to young girls all across the nation, showing them that it is imperative that we stand up to terrible men when they hurl verbal abuse and behave disrespectfully to women, no matter how insincerely they exploit their own familial relationships in a transparent attempt to excuse their behavior.

Far too many times have we seen Republicans cry “I couldn’t be sexist, I have a wife and daughter” and then brush their own misogynistic votes and statements under the rug, and for far too long have we been letting them get away with it.

It is so refreshing and inspiring to see a Democrat calling out a Republican in such a dramatic fashion and taking such a strong stand against the casual prejudice and stupefying arrogance of the Trump-supporting ghouls that Republicans send to represent them in Congress. Bravo!
