Trump turns PGA coverage into virtual political attack to pin blame on Obama for COVID-19 failures

One might think that we are better off when Donald Trump takes an afternoon off to watch golf on TV.

Any time the president spends away from Twitter and far from any meaningful destructive actions he could take through the federal government is a net positive for America and the world.

But Trump’s actions today calling into the NBC broadcast of the PGA tournament was the worst of both worlds.

Not only is the viewing public subjected to hearing his voice rather than the simple stroke by stroke analysis from the tournament’s sportscasters, but the president was given the opportunity to spread further lies in his recent spate of accusations against his much more competent predecessor Barack Obama.

Since it was golf, Trump was in his element, name-dropping famous professional golfers left and right and going on about how much he misses playing the sport himself. His penchant for magical thinking was on full display.

“We want to get sports back. We miss sports,” Trump said. “We need sports in terms of the psyche, the psyche of our country.”

“We want to be back to normal where you have the big crowds where they’re practically standing on top of each other, not where they’re worried,” Trump added.

But talk about duffing quickly moved on to lies and excuses as the president claimed that he wasn’t told of the possibilities of a pandemic in contradiction of reports that intelligence reports alerted him to the possibilities as early as November of last year and certainly by early January of this year.

Even more galling was his continued insistence that America’s lack of preparedness had nothing to do with his failures during his time in office and was all the fault of the mess left behind by Obama, who had been out of the office of the presidency for nearly three years before the COVID-19 virus was even discovered.

Such a claim may be incredibly ridiculous on its very face, but Trump still thinks enough Americans will believe his manipulative excuses that they are worth repeating over and over again, no matter how ludicrous they make the president seem to anyone with an ounce of rationality,
