While the physical effects of the COVID-19 virus on the global population have been the primary concern of most people, the knock-on economic effects may perhaps be just as damaging and long-lasting as the medical crisis has already proven to be.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) knows that the legislation that Congress has passed and is contemplating in its next moves to address the massive unemployment and sudden disappearance of personal and small business income due to the pandemic will determine the quality of life that millions of Americans will face in the months and years ahead.
Thus, the progressive congresswoman has been a vociferous champion for working people and their families as Republicans continue to favor corporate interests in their legislative proposals to provide aid to counter the economic collapse engendered by the pandemic.

Ocasio-Cortez issued a stark warning about a danger that is looming on the horizon for many Americans as their rent and mortgage payments come due in the weeks and months ahead, but the meager and often delayed checks from the federal government meant to help them through these difficult times won’t be able to meet the demands of landlords and lenders.
I say this bc I don’t want GOP lawmakers to lie to the public & pretend they didn’t see a payment crisis coming. They know & are choosing not to stop it.
Just like they pretended to act surprised when PPP went to the rich instead of mom & pops, when they WROTE the bill that way.

The New York representative put Republicans on notice that they will not be able to claim that they did not see the housing fiasco in advance and try to evade blame for not designing economic rescue plans that helped the people who need shelter rather than merely looking out for property owners and mortgage holders.
While it’s often difficult for people who are economically struggling to keep track of what their elected representatives are doing and whose interests they are truly looking after, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez’s tweets show who is truly concerned about the plight of impending homelessness and what the other party id failing to do to address it.
With any downtime you have during the lockdown phase of the pandemic, take some time to write your own representatives to let them know who you think should get priority in any further rescue aid packages, the already wealthy or those who face a new life living on the streets if they can’t make a living in the post-pandemic economy.
