Perhaps the sedatives have kicked in.
Maybe the friendlier environs of his holiday getaway at his Mar-a-Lago resort surrounded by wealthy supporters and familiar faces have soothed his unhinged emotions and provided a welcome distraction.
Whatever the reason, Donald Trump has gone from tweeting and retweeting a record number of posts on social media in the past few weeks at the height of his rage over an impeachment he never believed that the Democrats would dare to vote through to the Senate to relative radio silence.
Outside of an obligatory Hanukkah message that his daughter Ivanka, who converted to Judaism when she married Jared Kushner, would likely be highly insulted if he failed to post, Trump has sent out only a single of his signature political rants on Twitter so far today.
As expected, it was another anti-Democrat rant on his impeachment, filled with his usual insults, lies, and bluster.
Crazy Nancy wants to dictate terms on the Impeachment Hoax to the Republican Majority Senate, but striped away all Due Process, no lawyers or witnesses, on the Democrat Majority House. The Dems just wish it would all end. Their case is dead, their poll numbers are horrendous!

Beginning with his latest pejorative nickname for the Speaker of the House that strips away more of his own infinitesimal dignity than it affects that of Nancy Pelosi, Trump spews his false talking points in the hope that the repetition of his lies will convince a large enough portion of the tuned-out populace to believe them that he will wiggle his way out of being held accountable for his high crimes and misdemeanors.
Just to set the record straight:
- The impeachment is not a hoax, as the testimony of fact witnesses to Trump’s illegal actions has already proven to the satisfaction of the majority of representatives in the Congressional chamber tasked with evaluating the evidence.
- The constitution mandates that the House set up its own rules for impeachment with the witnesses, lawyers, and what Trump describes as “Due Process” meant to be available during the Senate trial that determines the guilt of the impeached party and whether they are removed from office.
- The Democrats do wish it would end, but only after the president ceases his obstruction and allows his executive branch staff, and his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, to testify under oath about what happened in the withholding of military aid to Ukraine in exchange for illegal political interference in the 2020 presidential election. They know that if they obtain truthful testimony from Trump’s co-conspirators, the end will come quickly — the end of his presidency at least.
- It is Trump’s poll numbers that are horrendous, not the Democrats’. The latest poll from Politico and Morning Consult has a majority of Americans now supporting the articles of impeachment, Trump’s impeachment, and his removal from office.
Perhaps that last point is the real reason that Trump has been restricting the number of tweets that he posts.
With his avalanche of posted propaganda proving ineffective in turning public opinion his way, the president and his advisors may have decided that less is more when it comes to making his case.
At least the lack of compulsive over-tweeting makes Trump seem somewhat less desperate and undignified as the next steps in the impeachment process are being negotiated between the two parties in Congress, “seem” being the operative word here.
Thankfully, those who continually refresh their Twitter feeds looking for the next presidential gem to feed their outrage and ridicule can rest a bit during the holidays, if that is, the president stays on this less voluminous track and remains on the golf course until the new year begins.
