Trump Saturday tweet roundup: what he’s saying as the impeachment draws ever closer

With each new day bringing Donald Trump closer and closer to impeachment — as incriminating new details emerge of his scheme to cheat in the 2020 elections by using extortion and bribery to force Ukraine to investigate his political rivals and break all the rules barring foreign interference in domestic campaigns — the president has regressed to his version of a fetal position: compulsively retweeting every post he can find that defends him from the Democratic onslaught of truth-digging.

Trump managed to find enough material to retweet among the right-wing extremist media — including from Fox News contributors and Rush Limbaugh — to fill his Twitter feed with a wall of lies and conspiracy theories punctuated with calls to defeat the reelection of Louisiana’s Democratic governor and with boasts  trying to take credit for the latest Wall Street milestone.

Neither the Fox and Friends host nor the president noted how little effort is required to muddy the already considerably sullied Trump name. The president needs no help from the Democrats in this regard.

Trump revives his complaint that the hearings are boring. When one is used to the flights of imagination and fantasy that typically pass for reality in Trump’s mind, facts can be seen as dull and unexciting…until they tell the tale of bribery and extortion that the impeachment hearings have uncovered. Perhaps the president would find them less boring if he turned the sound on, but he still claims to not be gracing the televised public heartings with his attention, despite al evidence to the contrary,

Trump’s unfounded claim that the stock market indices are directly correlated with his own ability to remain in the White House rather than be remanded to the big house is founded not in any rational belief or analysis of market trends, but solely on his long-held strategy of creating irrational fear among the less educated members of the voting populace most of whom have little to no stake in the daily gyrations of the Wall Street traders.

It is the same strategy he uses when he tweets about caravans of invading immigrants filled with terrorists, rapists, and thieves heading to the U.S. border —  invoke fear, blame your opposition, and reap the support and votes of those too lazy or ignorant to seek the truth on their own.

It’s likely that that same target audience — surely the only people who still believe a word of what Trump tweets — won’t see the irony behind the other tweet Trump posted in between the fawning defenses of his criminal behavior, yet another promotion of his Don Jr.’s new book.

Trump himself is either so un-self-aware or so blatantly corrupt that he doesn’t care about the cognitive dissonance born of his hawking his own son’s book while facing an impeachment investigation into his efforts to railroad the Ukranian government into validating his accusations that Hunter Biden corruptly profited from the influence of his father then-Vice President Joe Biden.

Given the fact that the number one status of Donald Trump Jr’s book on The New York Times non-fiction bestseller list is accompanied by a notation indicating that an extraordinarily large number of sales originated from bulk purchases rather than individual sales. With the Republican National Committee sending out copies to GOP donors, suspicions that they were artificially inflating sales by pre-ordering numerous copies of the book in advance of the donations being booked were shot down by RNC officials.

“We haven’t made a large bulk purchase, but are ordering copies to keep up with demand. Each book is sold to an individual who supports the Republican Party … Using books as a means to fundraise is standard practice from political parties on both sides of the aisle,” an RNC representative told The New York Post.

If the RNC truly isn’t responsible for the bulk purchases of the inflated best seller by Trump Jr., then who is?

One doesn’t need a Ouija board to infer that perhaps the man who would call the press to pretend to be his own press agent to spin fanciful lies about his net worth might not be above paying to ensure that his son’s book debuted high in the charts. Then again it could be Don Jr. himself behind the bulk purchases. Like father, like son they say.

Trump’s ability to continue his cons while in the midst of an impeachment inquiry demonstrates his utter inability to cease being his own worst enemy, even when under siege for this very type of duplicitous behavior.

As the impeachment inquiry progresses and more facts negative for the president emerge, expect Trump to be locked in the corner furiously retweeting whatever defenders he can find who haven’t yet had the good sense to abandon ship.
