While on the campaign trail in Iowa, an angry Joe Biden responded to the news of Donald Trump’s reported attempts to use the leverage of presidential power to intimidate the government of Ukraine into colluding with his campaign to find dirt on the former vice president’s son to use against Biden in the 2020 election.

Biden was asked by reporters about what he knew about his son’s business dealings in Ukraine when he irately told the journalists which story they should really be pursuing — that of Trump’s blatant abuse of his power and his violation of the constitution.

“Here’s what I know. I know Trump deserves to be investigated. He is violating every basic norm of a president,” Biden indignantly replied to the question before turning his response to the inquiry that he thought the journalists should be asking.

“You should be asking him the question: why is he on the phone with a foreign leader, trying to intimidate a foreign leader?” Biden said. “This appears to be an overwhelming abuse of power. To get on the phone with a foreign leader who is looking for help from the United States and ask about me and imply things … this is outrageous. You have never seen anything like this from any president.”

“You should be looking at Trump,” Biden angrily told the reporters. “Trump is doing this because he knows that I’ll beat him like a drum,” he continued, referencing the numerous polls that show the president losing to each of the top Democratic contenders for the presdential nomination by wide margins. “And he’s using the abuse of power and every element of the presidency to try to do something to smear me,” Biden accused.

“Everybody looked at this and everybody who’s looked at it said there’s nothing there. Ask the right question,” he concluded.

It’s obvious that the former VP wants to make sure that the media conversation stays on Trump’s abuse of power rather than on his son’s actions in Ukraine, since the former is an impeachable offense, while his son’s actions as a private citizen are not part of any constitutional crisis.

The Biden campaign later tweeted out the exchange as caught on video, which you can watch below.
