A top pro-Trump dirty trickster just got named in a California felony securities fraud arrest warrant.
Failson extraordinaire Jacob Wohl is most famous for having been banned from Twitter for spreading disinformation, banned permanently from hedge fund trading, making up false allegations against Democratic presidential candidate Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and getting referred to the FBI for trying to falsely claim that Robert Mueller committed sexual assault.
But now, his dirty past as a teenage con man has caught up with him and he’s facing a serious criminal charge.
Authorities east of Los Angeles issued the warrant for Wohl’s arrest just before the three-year statute of limitations expires. The Daily Beast’s Will Sommer reports:
Wohl and former business partner Matthew Johnson were both charged with the unlawful sale of securities in a Riverside Superior Court criminal complaint filed on Aug. 19.
“In 2016 Jacob Wohl and Matthew Johnson represented themselves as members of a company called Montgomery Assets,” the warrant application reads. “On July 27, 2016 through August 27, 2016 Jacob Wohl and Matthew Johnson offered for sale unqualified securities in violation of California Corporations Code 25110 which has a three year statute of limitations and must be tolled by the issuance of an arrest warrant.”
Wohl has not yet been apprehended on the charges.
Donald Trump led directly to the rise, and apparently on-rushing fall of Jacob Wohl, whose only claim to fame was writing very fast replies to Trump on Twitter that merited occasional retweets and pioneering an iconically stupid meme about all the pro-Trump things he overheard in “hipster coffee shops.”
His father, David Wohl, is a minor Trump surrogate and occasional Fox News guest conspiracy theorist.
But the younger Wohl was busy becoming famous for all the wrong reasons during Trump’s rise and his concomitant fifteen minutes of fame.
In early 2017, he became the youngest person ever banned for life by the National Futures Association which oversees commodities trading, for running Nex Capital Management LLC. (link below)
An Arizona regulatory commission hit Wohl with a five-figure fine for unlicensed securities activity around that same period and a home flipping scam.
Similarly, Jacob Wohl’s career as a dirty trickster has hit the rocks.
His most spectacularly stupid stunt remains starting a company called “Surefire Intelligence” which Jane Mayer at the New Yorker quickly revealed as little more than Wohl himself clumsily using photoshop to obscure his face.
He tried to use that “intelligence” company to peddle false allegations against the former Special Counsel with the Gateway Pundit, a grossly disreputable right-wing website.
Wohl’s partner in political stupidity is lawyer Jack Burkman, who will forever live in infamy for conducting a surreal press conference with his fly down.
Earlier this year, Wohl perpetrated desperate attempt at drumming up self-pity with a fake death threat that he proceeded to file a false police report about in Minnesota.
It’s unknown if local authorities in Minneapolis plan to charge him with a crime.
Most recently, one of Wohl’s phone numbers was used to threaten a neo-Nazi linked Los Angeles GOP congressional candidate’s ex-girlfriend.
UPDATED: California officials have set Jacob Wohl’s arraignment after he made a court appearance today, hopefully before he conned the next unsuspecting MAGA supporter, mark or investor.
Jacob is bragging that his warrant was “recalled” — but leaving out that it’s only because he made a court appearance today and set a date for his criminal arraignment. https://t.co/CLuEwZm3am
