Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) joined the chorus of people condemning Vice President Mike Pence’s decision to stay at Donald Trump’s resort in Ireland while on a two-day diplomatic visit to that country despite the fact that the property is 180 miles away from his meetings in Dublin and requires a costly daily round trip flight for the commute.
The president reportedly suggested that Pence stay at his resort, once again ignoring the ethics rules prohibiting him from using his office for personal gain.
Representative Ocasio-Cortez noted that the president’s “suggestion” continues a familiar pattern of corrupt behavior by Trump and his administration as she commented on a tweet by David Frum, Senior Editor of The Atlantic.

The progressive freshman congresswoman went beyond merely pointing out Trump’s corruption by demonstrating the link between the president’s promotion of racist policies and his attempts to distract the public from his detestably predictable con artistry.
Beyond the moral wrong, racism is a powerful political tool used to dismantle public goods & civil rights.
So long as bigoted sympathies exist (subtly or loud), they will be used. That’s why convincing people racism is a sidenote,¬ broad or institutional, is a strategic move.

Representative Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t the only top Democrat denouncing the Vice President’s accommodation choice.
Congressman Ted Lieu (R-CA) posted this tweet addressed directly to Pence, reminding the VP of his constitutional oath and cheekily warning him to watch out for the bedbugs that have been known to be found at other Trump properties.
Also, I hope you don't encounter bedbugs. Many people say there are lots of bedbugs at Trump properties. https://t.co/KgJfnMRSgt

At least Rep. Lieu spared Pence the photos of the victims of the bedbugs at Trump’s Miami Doral resort.
The combination of a Labor day weekend where both the Vice President and the President himself were funneling tax dollars into Trump’s personal coffers led to a reprimand from the Democratic National Committee which sent this tweet to remind the public of the president’s avaricious con game.

Pence has since responded to the controversy over his seemingly logistically inconvenient lodging decision by chalking it up as “logical” — using a type of logic that is apparent only to Trump administration insiders presumably.
.@VP Pence in Ireland: "If you have a chance to get to Doonbeg you'll find it's a fairly small place, the opportunity to stay at Trump National in Doonbeg, to accommodate the unique footprint that comes with our security detail and other personnel made it logical." pic.twitter.com/yqOSjKt9M3

As Congress gets set to return from its August break, one can only hope that among their many urgent issues to address — like finally getting the Senate to take up the gun regulation reforms already passed by the House — will be tackling the president’s massive level of corruption by putting impeachment proceedings on the fast track.
