Ilhan Omar to Alabama Republicans: Stop backing “accused child molester” before you attack me

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) clapped back at the Alabama Republican party today after that state’s GOP establishment passed a resolution at its annual summer meeting calling for the first-term Muslim representative to be stripped of her seat and removed from Congress.

The Alabama Republicans urged the state’s delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives — all but one of whom is a member of the GOP — to “proceed with the expulsion process” for Congresswoman Omar, a largely symbolic move given that Democrats form a majority in the chamber.

The reasons given in their resolution for the proposed expulsion demonstrate how closely the state’s Republican overlords are regurgitating both Fox News talking points and Donald Trump’s twitter feed.

“Rep. Omar has engaged in rhetoric that explicitly runs counter to American values and patriotism by falsely accusing U.S. armed forces of committing war crimes while on mission to liberate her home country of Somalia,” the resolution stated, according to an account on news website AL.com.

The GOP screed also claimed that Omar “dismissed the 9/11 terror attacks” and “sympathized with a convicted terrorist” by advocating for “sentencing leniency.”

“Omar has a disturbing record of using anti-Semitic language that includes alleging Jewish money is used to buy American influence regarding its policy toward Israel,” the resolution continued as if the state’s four separate KKK groups didn’t exist.

Today, Congresswoman Omar gave the Alabama Republicans a civics lesson that was long overdue, particularly since the political party in question should presumably already be well acquainted with the niceties of the system representative democracy in this country.

Representative Omar pulled the Roy Moore card out of her back pocket to shame the party that nominated an alleged predator of under-aged girls as its Senate candidate, a man who is again trying to win the same seat in the upcoming Republican primary.

Republican hypocrisy in Alabama apparently knows no bounds.

Bravo, Congresswoman Omar! You can fight back with the best of them.
