In a sadly unsurprising but truly reprehensible turn of events, a hospital in El Paso has had to correct the president on what actually happened during his photo-op visit to mass shooting victims a few weeks ago.
During yesterday’s wildly narcissistic press scrum in which Trump declared himself the “chosen one,” he also made the astonishing claim that surgeons and doctors “left operating rooms” to come and see him.

“Not only did they meet with me, they were pouring out of the room. The doctors were coming out of the operating rooms. There were hundreds and hundreds of people all over the floor. You couldn’t even walk on it. So, you know, there’s a lot to happen” said Trump to reporters.
Of course, this didn’t happen.

El Paso’s University Medical Center quickly shot down the president’s ridiculous claim. “At no time did, or would, physicians or staff leave active operating rooms during the presidential visit. Our priority is always patient care,” said a spokesman Ryan Mielke to ABC-7.

For the president to turn a visit to the survivors of a mass shooting into an excuse for him to falsely play up his popularity is positively ghoulish. Why he would feel the need to lie about something so trivial about such a somber occasion is beyond anyone’s comprehension.
