Now, Vanity Fair is reporting that Stepanie Winston Wolkoff, described as the right-hand woman to First Lady Melania Trump, has handed over a large cache of documents to the attorney general of Washington D.C. as part of a larger investigation into President Trump’s inauguration.

Wolkoff played a large role in the planning of the $107 million event, which is being probed because foreign nationals were discovered trying to use the inauguration as a roundabout way of making illegal campaign donations and because of bizarre spending practices. A subpoena was issued to Wolkoff last month, which she has now complied with.

“The latest subpoena appears to be probing potential self-dealing by the Trump Organization and members of the president’s family, according to two people familiar with the investigation,” writes Emily Jane Fox in Vanity Fair.

The documents could shed light on financial irregularities and misdeeds related to the inauguration.

“The attorney general appears to be particularly interested in payments being made through the inaugural committee to Trump-owned businesses, and whether there was a fair bidding process for contractors,” explains Fox.

Unethical self-dealing is of course in perfect keeping with what we know about the Trump family and it appears that Wolkoff had concerns about it herself while planning the inauguration.

“Wolkoff’s concerns over how the money was being spent, whether or not the Trumps were self-dealing, and if the Trump kids had their dad’s best interests at heart were grave enough that she called Cohen in the midst of it to air her grievances. Cohen, true to form, recorded the phone call with his friend,” writes Fox.

While it’s as yet unclear what the documents will reveal, they should offer an unprecedented peek behind the curtain. Wolkoff is known for having a uniquely close relationship with the First Lady and has spent the night at the White House residence in the past. As this investigation heats up, she may find that loyalty put to the test.
