Trump’s bizarre habit of printing out tweets and signing them was just revealed

It’s hardly a novel observation at this point to state that Donald Trump spends far too much time on Twitter and far too little focusing on the serious responsibilities he’s been entrusted with as president. He’s addicted to the social media website and even when he’s not blasting out one of his own rambling, racist tweets he’s often liking and retweeting equally execrable tweets from his supporters and allies.

Now, a new article from Politico has shed more light on the president’s bizarre Twitter habits. Apparently, Trump has a habit of having his staff print out enlarged copies of tweets he likes, signing them, and sending them as “gifts” to the authors of the tweets.

Daniel Lippman of Politico used an anecdote about Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to illustrate:

“The president has even been known to sends printouts of tweets he likes. After he liked one Gaetz tweet, he had it printed by a staffer, signed it and requested that it be sent to Gaetz’s congressional office, where the now-framed tweet hangs.

As one of Trump’s most obsequious Congressional lapdogs, it’s not surprising that Gaetz would choose to hang up the signed tweet, but it’s no less pathetic for being so predictable.

In a sense, the president’s odd behavior offers a perfect distillation of what it means to be Donald Trump. He’s simultaneously obsessed with Twitter yet largely technically illiterate. Printing out a tweet is something that few people who grew up with social media would ever think to do, but Trump seems completely oblivious to how odd it looks. The fact that he signs the tweets like a celebrity is, of course, a direct indication of his staggeringly oversized ego and his reality show background.

Trump is not a serious president but he should be taken seriously. He’s a scatterbrained goon obsessed with himself, but he’s also a virulent racist with his finger on the nuclear button. Americans must show up en masse in 2020 to vote him out and finally rid this country of this dangerous embarrassment of a man.
