Trump just threw a whiny Twitter tantrum about Fox News’s coverage of him

Since day one of his presidency, perhaps the key enabling force allowing Donald Trump to imagine himself a competent leader has been Fox News. The network serves as a sort of de facto state media operation for him, pumping out a constant stream of braindead propaganda hailing his imagined victories and smearing his political opponents. Trump relies on Fox to make him feel better about himself and keep his followers convinced of his dazzling brilliance.

With that reality in mind, the president’s Twitter outburst this morning makes more sense. The president whined about Fox, saying that the hosts have changed and are no longer the “Proud Warriors” they used to be. Of course, the idea that ostensible journalists would serve as “warriors” for a president dispels the idea that Fox is anything more than a hack partisan operation.

Trump went on to explain that the source of his grievance is the new poll numbers from Fox which reflect poorly on his reelection chances if Joe Biden is the Democratic nominee. He pathetically insisted that the polls must be wrong because polls showed him “losing BIG to Crooked Hillary” in 2016.

In fact, those polls weren’t too far off the mark. They predicted a slim margin which would allow a Trump victory and a slew of factors, including Russian interference, allowed him to just barely secure his unlikely win and even then he still lost the popular vote by millions of votes.

Clearly feeling self-conscious, the president went on to ramble off his “achievements” which included surviving a “vicious Witch Hunt,” even though Robert Mueller confirmed on Wednesday that, despite Trump’s insistence, his investigation was decidedly not a witch hunt. Beyond that, the numerous convictions and indictments arising from the probe prove it was a legitimate undertaking.

Trump also touted the economy, which is increasingly the only leg he has to stand on. The president seems to still be shaken by Mueller’s hearing — during which the former Special Counsel stated that Trump could be criminally charged once he leaves office — and seeing his pet news network relay bad news on top of that was just too much for him. He can see his failed presidency crumbling around him. Expect him to lash out more and more like the cornered animal he is.
