Trump just appointed a woman with a history of deranged blog posts about Pres. Obama to U.S. Treasury

Donald Trump promised to bring “only the best people” into his administration, but the past two years proved just how big a lie that was with an extraordinary number of cabinet-level officials prematurely departing their jobs on account of scandals and corruption.

The stigma that is now part and parcel of working for the Trump White House is making recruitment for crucial roles in the government more difficult as candidates may have to determine whether their political commitment to the president outweighs the hefty legal fees they may be liable for if they are embroiled in future investigations into the administration’s many questionable policies and actions.

It’s now obvious that Trump is reaching the bottom of the barrel as his team searches for new people to handle the daily dirty work in various cabinet departments.

Take, for example, the woman that Trump has chosen to appoint to the position of the assistant secretary for public affairs in the U.S. Treasury Department.

Monica Crowley seems to have been selected as much for her adoption of clearly false far-right political conspiracy theories as for any of the skills she picked up as a former talk radio host and Fox News contributor.

As a believer in the widely disproven racist lie that former President Barrack Obama was a secret Muslim born in Kenya and not a legitimate U.S. citizen, Crowley is obviously on the same page as the man who approved her hiring and is oblivious to the fact that the page is from a book of complete fiction.

In a CNN investigation into Crowley’s past social media comments, the cable news network found “multiple comments spreading these false claims on her personal blog and in at least one tweet between 2009 and 2015” — not commendable optics for someone appointed to the top spokeswoman job at the Treasury Department where credibility is essential to the smooth functioning of our economic system.

According to CNN, Crowley “endorsed a story claiming Obama was an ‘Islamic community organizer’ trying to conform the United States to Sharia law and claimed conspiracy theories about Obama’s birth certificate were ‘legitimate concerns.'”

On her blog, Crowley reportedly accused Obama of possessing loyalty towards Islam and questioned his ability to remain loyal to the United States.

“Maybe politics didn’t have anything to do with it, but Islam certainly did. And does. Obama was born to a Muslim father, which under Islam automatically made him a Muslim. He says he converted to Christianity as an adult, which under Islam makes him an apostate,” Crowley wrote.
“He grew up in Indonesia, which is the most populous Muslim nation on earth. His stepfather was also a Muslim. He was steeped in Islam throughout his formative years, so it should come as no surprise that he has loyalties to Islam. During the 2008 campaign, he even slipped and claimed that the United States has ’57’ states, instead of 50. The number of Muslim states in the Organization of the Islamic Conference is 57.”
“It may not come as a shock that he appears loyal to Islam. The question is: can he be both loyal to Islam and loyal to the United States?” she added. “How could he….support the enemy?”
The CNN investigators uncovered numerous other posts as blatantly false and derogatory as what you just read, accusing Obama of being on the side of Islamic terrorists with considerably less evidence — actually none— than that which connects President Trump to Russian influences.
If Crowley’s past as a “birther” isn’t enough to disqualify her from assuming her new position, then perhaps she should be forced to step down for the same reasons that she eventually withdrew her name from consideration when she was originally chosen by Trump in December 2016 to be the senior director of strategic communications for the National Security Council.
According to CNN, she begged off of that appointment after their researchers “uncovered extensive plagiarism in her book and doctoral thesis.”
Only the best people, indeed. Apparently, in Trump’s estimation, years of experience persistently promoting lies is the perfect background for an administration spokesperson.
How else could they stand in front of the press with a straight face?
