Trump just declared that he has the Constitutional power to do “whatever I want as president”

That Donald Trump has had absolutely no respect for the rule of law should be fairly obvious at this point.

From the tax fraud he committed in order to maximize the millions he and his family inherited from their father to the multiple credible accusations of sexual assault made by women against him to his unindicted co-conspirator status in the felony campaign finance violations surrounding his payoffs to silence his sex worker mistresses, Trump has always acted as if the law was something that only the poor peons that comprise 99% of this country needed to heed.

While previously Trump was somewhat discrete in his criminal behavior, now that he is president, Trump seems to believe that he no longer has to even hide his corruption from the public — all due to his fundamental misreading of the Constitution that he was sworn in to uphold.

Now the president has seen fit to begin to brag about what he sees as his untouchability, as he did today in his remarks to the Turning Point USA conference of misguided right-wing youth.

After a crowd-pleasing — but easily discredited —deliberate mischaracterization of who actually pays the tariffs he’s imposed on China (hint: it’s the American import companies. not the Chinese exporters), Trump made the outrageously false claim that the Constitution grants him the power to do whatever he wants as president.

While it is questionable as to whether Trump has ever actually read the Constitution if he has, then his interpretation is another deliberate power grab rather than the result of him merely garbling the explanation of the extent of his immunity from prosecution provided to him by his aides.

Trump’s megalomania at the Turning Point USA conference went beyond his claims of being legally untouchable.

He also delved into his dictatorial “president for life” concept courtesy of the remarks of a fawning conference participant.

That “they” are afraid of a president actually violating the Constitution — a document that he so obviously has less use and respect for than an old newspaper that is strewn and torn upon the dirty streets — seems like a fairly intelligent response given what Trump has demonstrated with his remarks.

Every day brings a fresh outrage. How much longer can our democracy endure his relentless attacks before Democrats in the House of Representatives begin the process to remove him from office?
