Trump just had a conniption over Democratic move to punish him over racist attacks on women reps

President Trump has been getting hammered in the media, rightfully so, for his racist attacks on four Democratic Congresswomen. He said that representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley, all women of color, should go back to their own countries.

With the exception of Omar, who is a Somali-American immigrant, all of them were born and raised in the United States. In response to the backlash, the president doubled down, making the absurd claim that Omar likes Al-Qaeda, an attempt to vilify her because of her Muslim faith.

Now, Trump has taken to Twitter to defend his appalling bigotry. As he so often does, he pathetically tried to cast himself as the victim, saying that he was only “defending” himself, the country, and the flag. He made the laughable claim that he — the most criminal and corrupt president in American history — is working to enforce the law.

While the formatting of the tweet made it a little unclear, it appears he was attempting to quote former Republican Representative Jason Chaffetz, one of the most dishonest and overzealous Trump supporters out there.

President Trump wasn’t done yet though and sent out another tweet insisting that his original tweets were “NOT” racist, despite the fact that they were some of the most racist things he’s said to date. The man who vilified Mexicans as “rapists” and who regularly insults and belittles people of color then claimed to not have “racist bone” in his body.

He whined that the Democrats’ decision to holding a vote to condemn his racism is a “con game” and urged Republicans to avoid the “trap,” which is just him hoping the GOP stands in solidarity with his bigotry. He then alluded to some unspecified “filthy language, statements and lies” told by the Democratic Congresswomen. It’s unclear what he was referring to, and so it seems safe to presume he’s just making it up as he so often does.

Never one to eschew the petty route, Trump also attacked AOC’s and Omar’s poll numbers but conveniently failed to mention how deeply unpopular he himself is nationally. The tweetstorm ended with him tipping his hand as to why he’s engaging in this feud: he thinks it will help in 2020.

While he said that his goal is to wed the Democratic Party’s image to the four Congresswomen, the truth is far simpler: he believes racists will turn out in en masse to support him. It’s crucial that patriotic Americans show up in 2020, and repudiate this vile prejudice at the ballot box.
