President Trump made headlines around the nation this morning when he tweeted a racist attack at the four progressive women of color at the heart of an unusually public but minor feud with Democratic leaders, telling them to “go back to their countries” and slandered those governments as “corrupt and inept,” in an obvious callback to his “shithole countries” rhetoric.

While he didn’t call them out by name, it’s obvious that he was referring to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Rep, Ayanna Pressley (D-MA).
No stranger to the president’s racism, the “squad,” as they’ve come to be known, quickly took to Twitter and unloaded on the President with a series of biting comebacks.

No stranger to the President’s ire, Rep. Ilhan Omar called out the President for betraying his oath to the nation and promoting a racist white nationalist agenda.
You are stoking white nationalism bc you are angry that people like us are serving in Congress and fighting against your hate-filled agenda.

In a refreshing show of disrespect that we should all see more often, Rashida Tlaib didn’t even bother to call him “Mr. President” as she reminded him of where she came from and what she was sent to Congress to do — represent her district and hold Trump accountable for his heinous actions.

Yo @realDonaldTrump, I am fighting corruption in OUR country. I do it every day when I hold your admin accountable as a U.S. Congresswoman. Detroit taught me how to fight for the communities you continue to degrade & attack. Keep talking, you’ll be out of the WH soon. #TickTock

P.S. @realdonaldtrump, keep talking, you just make me work harder. I'm proud of my Palestinian roots & a WEAK bully like you never wins. This is what America looks like ⬇️.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s response was straight and to the point: Trump is a racist, and all the tweets in the world aren’t going to stop Pressley and her comrades from fighting back every step of the day.
THIS is what racism looks like. WE are what democracy looks like. And we’re not going anywhere. Except back to DC to fight for the families you marginalize and vilify everyday. pic.twitter.com/vYzoxCgN0X

Demonizing foreigners is nothing new for the president, but his deliberate attempt to paint four members of Congress, nearly all of whom were born in the United States, as foreign outsiders represents a significant escalation in his racist rhetoric and a deeply disturbing hint of what’s to come.
Kudos to these brave women for standing up to our bully president and make sure he knows that his disgusting attacks aren’t going to accomplish anything but harden their resolve and their dedication to getting him out of office.
