Trump just confused a crowd of factory workers with ramblings about handsome “Tom Cruise” pilot and invisible jets

President Trump gave a speech today ostensibly about the USMC, the deal to replace NAFTA that he insists is far superior despite the fact that the differences between the two are rather minor. Like everything else with this man, the reality is irrelevant. He doesn’t care about substantive, material facts. Always the reality television star, he cares about how he can present things in the media.

Given his own disheveled appearance, it’s ironic that he’s so obsessed with image. He has a long weird history of going on and on about how handsome and muscular his generals are and even felt up the muscles of an Air Force cadet in front of an audience. One of his most common compliments for military men and government officials is that they look like they came straight from “central casting,” a callback to his television days.

During his USMCA speech in front of factory employees of Derco Aerospace Inc. in Milwaukee, the president’s odd obsession once again reared its head. Trump said that he’s met a lot of pilots and then recounted what could just as likely as not have been an invented story.

“I once said to one of the pilots, he looked like central casting. Tom Cruise, but maybe better. Little taller and a little stronger,” Trump began, clearly thinking of the popular fighter pilot film Top Gun. In the past, he bragged that his generals are also better looking than Cruise.

“And I said, ‘How good is the F35 compared to other planes? Enemy craft? He said ‘well they have a problem, they can’t see it. I said “that sounds good to me not knowing too much to it, that sounds good. But he said there’s nothing like it,” Trump added. His weird belief that the F35 is literally invisible is something that crops up frequently, either because nobody has bothered to explain how it really works to him, he’s not smart enough to understand, or he just likes lying about it.

In any case, this bizarre performance proves once again what an inadequate mind he has for his position. This man lacks the mental facilities to be president, and his weird fascinations mean he is constantly distracted. Things can only go downhill for him from here.
