Ocasio-Cortez just wrecked Dick Cheney’s daughter over Trump’s concentration camps

Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) is ensuring that even though her vile father is no longer serving as Vice President, the Cheney family continues to be a curse on the U.S. government. While she has yet to reach the historic lows of the man who puppeteered the disastrous Iraq War, she has already made it abundantly clear that she just as bereft of morality as her father.

This morning, she attacked rising Democratic star Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twiter, drawing issue with AOC correctly identifying the Trump administration’s immigrant detention centers as concentration camps, which they technically are. Cheney feigned outrage saying that AOC should learn “some actual history.” She then invoked the Holocaust, saying it’s demeaning and a disgrace to draw parallels between the border camps and concentration camps, implicitly defending President Trump’s cruelty in the process.

The tweet is dripping in bad faith. Obviously, Ocasio-Cortez is not saying that the internment of immigrant families is exactly the same as the Holocaust, she’s just pointing out the chilling similarities seen in the dehumanization and forced internment on display. Trump’s camps are dangerous because this is a slippery slope and there’s no way to know for sure what the terminus of these policies might be, especially coming from a president who has joked about shooting undocumented immigrants before.

AOC would go on to clarify on Twitter for the “shrieking Republicans” that concentration camps aren’t the same as “death camps” but that the immigrant detainment facilities do indeed meet the definition for concentration camps, which are places for the “mass detention of civilians without trial.”

Ocasio-Cortez then focused more specifically on Cheney’s ill-intended attack, in particular, further defending her use of the term “concentration camp by” challenging Cheney to come up with a more accurate description of what’s going on along the border.

“Hey Rep. Cheney, since you’re so eager to ‘educate me,’ I’m curious: What do YOU call building mass camps of people being detained without a trial?” Aoc tweeted. “How would you dress up DHS’s mass separation of thousands children at the border from their parents?”

Cheney has not responded yet, and with how biting AOC’s response was, she would be wise to maintain radio silence and cede the field on this one.

As has quickly become the trend, AOC has once again totally destroyed another Republican’s strawman insults and revealed the GOP as a breeding ground for soulless partisan hacks incapable of feeling anything beyond their own lust for power. Perhaps now, Cheney will think twice before taking on AOC.
