Trump just left Londoners stunned with a racist attack on their mayor and city

Donald Trump is never one to NOT hold a grudge.

The president may have returned from the royal fantasies of his visit to Great Britain a week ago, but he still has not forgotten his feud with London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who detests Trump — a man he’s called “one of the most egregious examples of a growing global threat”  — as much as the president dislikes the Muslim mayor.

President Trump found a new reason to attack Khan today after news reports of three murders taking place within 24 hours in London began to circulate. As usual, Trump took to Twitter, quote tweeting a notorious white supremacist and blaming Mayor Khan for the violence.

Not only is Trump attacking someone under the must dubious of loosely connected circumstance, he took the opportunity to elevate Katie Hopkins, whose vile racism has relegated her to the dark fringes of British discourse. Hopkins has said that “racial profiling is a good thing, call me racist. I don’t care,” and works with “Defend Europe,” a group supported by David Duke and neo-Nazis, which obstructs “search and rescue” efforts to save trafficked migrants and refugees.

This is who the president has chosen to elevate in the wake of tragic murders overseas.

The audacity of Trump attacking the mayor over violent crime statistics when the murder rate in the entire United Kingdom equals that of Pennsylvania alone proves that reality and facts matter little to our vengeful president when he’s intent on inflicting political damage. Even comparing the murder rates of London with New York City, Trump’s home town, during the last full year of statistics available shows that London with 116 murders in 2017 had fewer than half New York’s annual total of 290 in that year.

Perhaps most telling, in 2017, there were 726 homicides in the England and Wales combined — well short of the more than 30,000 annual gun deaths in the United States, thanks to the non-existent gun laws supported by this president and his party.

One Tweet attacking Mayor Khan was not enough for the president today, however. Hours after his initial post, Trump was back retweeting a post — by a woman who works for Tucker Carlson’s right-wing propaganda machine The Daily Caller and blames Khan for her lack of desire to visit London — accusing the mayor of destroying London.

As of the writing of this article, Sadiq Khan has yet to respond to President Trump’s latest emission of vitriol, but perhaps that’s simply due to the time difference between the U.S and Great Britain. Otherwise, we can expect the feud to continue shortly as Trump prepares to next feel the wrath of Khan in the media.

Suffice it to say that Khan has many options to choose from as he looks for ways to expose Trump’s hypocrisy. There is today’s shooting at a California Costco or any one of a number of mass shootings and hate crimes that have taken place in the last year.

Either way, President Trump would do well to solve his own country’s problems with white nationalist extremist violence before criticizing the problems in a foreign nation’s capital.
