Trump just came up with a term even more bonkers than “Fake News” in morning Twitter outburst

Donald Trump’s one-man war against reality itself entered new territory today. His penchant for complete fabrication and rejection of any facts that are unflattering or inconvenient to him is well-documented, with his phrase “Fake News” being the most prominent feature of this disgraceful misinformation campaign. Now he’s added a similar and equally inane phrase to his lexicon: “Fake Polling.”

Clearly unnerved by the (not fake) news that a recent poll showed six top Democratic contenders beating him if the election were held today, Trump took to Twitter this morning and insisted that the “Fake News” has “never been more dishonest” than it is right now.

He claimed without evidence and without truth that the media’s “weapon of choice” is to use “Fake Polling” or “Suppression Polls.” In short, he accused polling organizations of cooking their numbers to make him look bad, which is laugh out loud absurd to anyone who understands how polling works on any level.

Polls are used for predictions and to help campaigns gauge how well they’re performing.  They’re not tools wielded by the media with some kind of ulterior motive. Trump refusing to admit that they’re accurate is akin to an ostrich sticking its head in the sand. Rather than focus on how to boost his numbers, he’s simply choosing to tell himself and his supporters that his numbers higher than they really are.

The president then took aim at a recent story from The New York Times which reported that Trump ordered his officials to lie to the public after his internal polling numbers showed him with lower numbers than presidential candidate John Biden in several crucial states. The command to distort his own polls was presumably prompted by his own wounded ego.

In his new tweet, Trump claimed that the polls were actually the “best numbers” his team has ever had and that the Times was just making up numbers. He ended his outburst by telling himself “WE WILL WIN AGAIN!” which, if the American people have anything to say about it, is just as untrue as all the other nonsense packed into the tweets.

One weird wrinkle of the Twitter episode was that he appears to have sent out the second part of the tweet thread first, then waited almost a half hour to post the first part and then the second part again. As always, he shows himself to be a paragon of incompetency even when it comes to simple things.

Twitter responses to the strange morning tweets ranged from brutal mockery to outright confusion, with most focusing on the president coining a new phrase with “Fake Polling.”
