President Trump just took to Twitter from the United Kingdom in order to wage a transatlantic feud with singer-songwriting icon Bette Midler over a stunningly petty provocation.

Bette Midler recently apologized for sharing a false meme on social media that depicted a pre-presidential Trump disparaging Republicans as the “dumbest group of voters in the country.”

She had the grace to apologize, which Trump certainly does not deserve. For what it’s worth, it definitely does sound like something Trump would say, since he’s on record saying that he loves the “poorly educated” and that he could “shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose any votes,” so she should be forgiven for her mistake.
I apologize; this quote turns out to be a fake from way back in ‘15-16. Don’t know how I missed it, but it sounds SO much like him that I believed it was true! Fact Check: Did Trump say in '98 Republicans are dumb? https://t.co/NY9s6V49el via @rgj

Rather than simply letting it go, however, the President of the United States decided to take time out of his state visit to the United Kingdom in order to slam her as a “washed-up psycho” and a “sick scammer,” lumping her in with the “fake news media.”

Washed up psycho @BetteMidler was forced to apologize for a statement she attributed to me that turned out to be totally fabricated by her in order to make “your great president” look really bad. She got caught, just like the Fake News Media gets caught. A sick scammer!

The president is clearly projecting here, since “washed-up psycho” perfectly describes Donald Trump for the majority of his career and certainly all of his presidency. The man who threw children in concentration camps and believes that windmills cause cancer definitely has no legs to stand on when it comes to sanity, and given the astonishing rate at which Trump lies, for him to be nitpicking about one wrong meme is the height of hypocrisy.
Social media quickly unloaded on him:
To boot, she was in THE FIRST WIVES CLUB and I believe you are in the THIRD WIVES CLUB.

Apologizing for something fake? Where is your Nancy Pelosi doctored video apology? Bette Midler has more class in her pinky finger than you've had in your entire life.

No matter what, the President of the United States has absolutely no business publicly calling an American citizen like Bette Midler a “washed up psycho.” That’s harassment and abuse of the highest order and shouldn’t even be allowed on any social media platform.
