London’s Mayor just brutally scorched Trump in response to his “loser” tweets

President Trump is visiting the United Kingdom again and true to form has already managed to embarrass the United States. Rather than using the trip as an opportunity to strengthen America’s relationship with one of our closest allies, he decided to reignite his feud with Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London.

Trump attacked him on Twitter, saying that he is a “stone cold loser who has done a “terrible job” as mayor. He also got in a shot at Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York, calling him “very dumb and incompetent” saying that because of those traits, Khan reminds him of him. The president then entered a whole new realm of petty by mocking Khan’s height, as if that has anything at all to do with being mayor.

Presumably, the Twitter outburst was prompted by an op-ed that Khan wrote for The Guardian in which he criticized the United Kingdom for giving Trump such a warm welcome and said that his nation will likely look back with “profound regret” and will find itself on the “wrong side of history” for being so hospitable to this vile president.

Now, The Hill reports that Khan’s office has responded to the president’s little tweets, and the mayor is refusing to sink to Trump’s level, choosing instead to point out the very real threat posed by Trump and the global rise of far-right extremism.

“This is much more serious than childish insults which should be beneath the President of the United States. Sadiq is representing the progressive values of London and our country warning that Donald Trump is the most egregious example of a growing far-right threat around the globe, which is putting at risk the basic values that have defined our liberal democracies for more than 70 years,” reads the statement.

Khan should be commended for keeping his cool and zeroing in on what really matters rather than letting himself get distracted by Trump’s flurry of petty insults. If one gets caught up in the mudslinging it can be very easy to lose sight of how dangerous this president really is. History will surely reflect well on Khan and revile Trump.
