Trump just got torched on Twitter for pretending he cares about LGBT Pride month

President Trump took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to issue a repulsively insincere and entirely performative celebration of LGBTQ pride month that immediately sparked a furious backlash on social media for its infuriating hypocrisy.

The president’s tweet references a February 2019 “campaign” to fight against the criminalization of homosexuality across the world that was mentioned once and never spoken of again; Trump himself was not aware of the “policy” when reporters asked him about it.

It immediately became clear that the sudden concern for the criminalization of LGBT people was just an excuse to inflame tensions with Iran, since two of the world’s most homophobic governments (who just so happen to be very close to Trump), Saudi Arabia and Russia, did not warrant any attention from the State Department.

The hypocrisy is particularly galling because the Trump administration’s entire tenure has been characterized by appalling bigotry against LGBTQ Americans. One of his first acts as president was to ban transgender Americans from serving in the military; since then, he has made it easier for adoption agencies to turn away same-sex couples and removed the LGBT categories from the 2020 census.

Trump’s Education Secretary has stopped investigating complaints from trans kids alleging discrimination from their schools, his Health and Human Services Secretary rolled back LGBTQ protections in the healthcare industry, and Trump has filled the courts with homophobic right-wing pyschopaths.

His pretend concern for the LGBTQ community is absolutely disgusting, and Twitter did not waste any time letting him know:
