Once again, a so-called Christian has been exposed as a sexual predator of the worst stripe. According to WBKO-TV, a pastor in Kentucky has been arrested for sexually exploiting children.  Police are alleging that he tried to set up a sexual encounter with two underage girls.

The pastor, Bobby “BJ” Blackburn of Elevate Church, reportedly used an “electronic device” in his attempt to plan a threesome with himself and two underage girls. He texted one of the girls, an employee of the pizza shop he owns, and she, in turn, showed the inappropriate text message to the police.

Blackburn turned himself in and was released on bond. The staggering hypocrisy of a pastor abusing his position as a business owner to pursue illegal sex acts with an employee and another underage girl is only deepened by the fact that he made news in 2016 for presenting his pizza establishment as unabashedly and “unapologetically” Christian.

At the time, he said that —despite complaints from some customers — he was determined to persist in playing Christian music at the restaurant and printing Bible passes on receipts.

“We, here at Giovanni’s of Prestonsburg are unapologetically a Christ-based business that runs and operates with Christian values and principle. We wholeheartedly believe that we have been blessed the way that we have because of the goodness of God. We understand that this is not the view of every customer and/or business owner and we are not trying to push this view on anybody,” he wrote in a Facebook post at the time.

Since the news of his alleged crime broke, the pastor has deleted his own Facebook page, the one for his church, and the one for his restaurant.

As disturbing as this incident is, it’s unfortunately not unheard of. Too often are religious figures in this country, particularly those with conservative political views, exposed as charlatans and sexual criminals. Luckily, there will soon be one less wolf in sheep’s clothing prowling the streets.
