A radical right-winger just shot three cops after choking a woman

Despite President Trump’s fear-mongering rants against illegal immigrants and foreign terrorists whom he claims are threatening the safety of American communities, the fact remains that the vast majority of fatalities from violent acts of terrorism in this country are perpetrated by domestic right-wing white nationalists.

Add another incident to the long list of domestic extremists responsible for a legacy of violence and death with the news of 29-year-old Grady Wayne Wilkes, a veteran from Auburn, Alabama and a regular denizen of the right-wing message boards on 4chan.

Wilkes reacted to the arrival of three police officers responding to a report of a domestic disturbance at his residence by emerging from his house wearing body armor, firing nine shots with a semi-automatic weapon, killing one officer, and seriously injuring the other two.

The perpetrator was arrested early this morning after Wilkes was captured following a rare Blue Alert issued by the state of Alabama — a state-wide bulletin sent only when a police officer is killed in action and the suspect is still at large. He was charged with shooting the police officers as well as with strangulation and domestic violence for his assault on the woman police found at his home.

With the suspect in police custody, JJ MacNab — a fellow at George Washington University’s Program on Extremism — rushed to check out Wilkes’ Twitter account before it was shut down in order to determine whether the heavily armed veteran had any links to right-wing extremist groups.

What she found only confirmed the pernicious effects that unchecked white nationalist propaganda is having on a population of receptive working-class whites who feel their privileged place in society slowly slipping away. Here’s the sampling of Wilkes’ posts that she retweeted to make her point about how the 4chan platform has become a breeding ground for violent extremists.

MacNab’s examination of Wilkes’ Twitter posts also led her to some background on why the police were summoned to his residence to begin with, a hidden history of sexual assault for which he was never held accountable.

If you’ve never been exposed to the cesspool of deplorable posts and memes filled with racist hatred and depravity that populate the message boards of 4chan, the representative selection above may shock you, but rest assured that these posts are rather mild compared to the worst of what the social media platform has to offer.

All of this goes to show that President Trump’s constant finger-pointing at illegal immigrants as the primary source of violent crime in this country is as blatantly false as just about everything else that exits his mouth.

That Trump’s ascension to the presidency has enabled the “very fine people” who haunt the 4chan message boards to feel even more emboldened to spew their heinous racism and act on their violent impulses only adds impetus to the calls for his impeachment.
