Trump just followed up his bonkers Rose Garden speech with a wild Tweetstorm

President Trump met with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) this morning, ostensibly to discuss the massive infrastructure bill he’s been promising to deliver since he first assumed office. Ultimately, the meeting turned out to be nothing more than a cheap ploy.

As soon as he arrived, Trump stated that no negotiations could proceed until the investigations into his administration are ended. Pelosi and Schumer refused and Trump stormed off to the Rose Garden to deliver an attack speech against the Democrats and the Mueller investigation.

The fact that he had a sign smearing the Russia probe ready and mounted on his podium proves that he never intended for his meeting with the Democrats to succeed, and simply used it as a pretext to deliver his rant in front of cameras.

The press conference was short and after taking only a few questions Trump departed. Soon after, he took to Twitter to unleash one of his trademarked, rage-fueled tweetstorms. He took aim at Pelosi and Schumer, accusing them of failing to “see or understand the great promise of our Country.” Trump accused them of wasting time and energy by pursuing their “Witch Hunt.”

At this point, his insistence on referring to the perfectly reasonable investigations into his administration as “witch hunts” is patently absurd. There have been numerous indictments and convictions, including of Trump’s longtime fixer and attorney Michael Cohen as well as his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort. On top of that, Mueller’s report revealed ten different occasions on which it appears President Trump obstructed justice.

Trump went on to claim that it’s impossible to “investigate and legislate” at the same time, which is just false at face value. There is no reason these investigations can’t be carried on in the background while Congress passes legislation.

The real problem is that Trump has utterly failed to articulate any kind of real legislative goals behind funding for his wasteful and xenophobic border wall. He keeps claiming he wants to pass an infrastructure bill but has still failed to push one to the floor of Congress. This administration truly has no idea how to get anything done that will actually help the American people.

Trump proceeded then to brag about his administration’s achievements, despite the fact that they don’t really have any beyond the massive tax break handout they gave to the super-rich at the expense of average Americans and that only qualifies as an “achievement” by the corrupt and plutocratic standards of the modern GOP.

The president ended his furious little Twitter tirade with a stunning display of hypocrisy by blaming the Democratic leadership for “tearing the United States apart.” Trump has been seeking to divide this country since he first announced his campaign in 2015. He delights in villainizing and scapegoating immigrants, Mexicans, and Muslims just to name a few groups. He actively seeks to divide us because he knows a sane, united country would never elect a man such as he.

It’s crucial we never elect him again.
