There is no longer any reasonable doubt that the president is a crook. Special Counsel Robert Mueller found a staggering ten different occasions on which it appears that Trump attempted to obstruct justice. Unfortunately for the American people, Trump’s handpicked Attorney General William Barr refuses to pursue charges, choosing instead to close ranks around the head of his party. The entire GOP is guilty of the same cowardice, and their continued failure to denounce this disastrous presidency will go down as a historic mistake.

Today, Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) went on CNN’s new day and revealed what is actually going on behind closed doors on Capitol Hill. He said that in private, Republicans are admitting that the Mueller Report does, in fact, show President Trump engaged in obstruction of justice. They are not willing to do admit as much in public though, presumably for fear of alienating the president’s base.

“Those who have read the Mueller report cannot avoid the conclusion that the president and some of his absolutely poor advisers engaged in profoundly disappointing, reprehensible conduct that would rise to the level of obstruction of justice if he were anyone other than the president,” said Coons.
The host Alisyn Camerota pushed Coons, asking if Republicans are thinking this way as well. He replied yes and that he knows it because of “conversations” he’s been a part of.

“There are very few who would be able to say publicly that this conduct is reprehensible for a president,” said the senator, alluding to the fear that Republicans have about going up against the president.
“Many have privately expressed concerns about what was revealed in the Mueller report in part because of the gap between what Attorney General Barr characterized what was in the Mueller report and what was actually in the Mueller report, for those who have taken the time to read through it,” Coons continued.
At the same time, Coons said that he has not spoken to a single Republican who would actually vote to impeach Trump, yet more proof that the GOP is a party of craven opportunists interested only in maintaining their power.
