Meghan McCain, the resident conservative hack co-host of The View, isn’t having the best of weeks. Yesterday, producers of the show revealed the embarrassing fact that she called out sick for a couple of days in order to lay low while the news that her father-in-law, an official of the Trump administration, has fallen under the lens of an ethics investigation.
Now, her husband Ben Domenech has ignited another scandal. Domenech, who has a history of plagiarism, lying about Supreme Court Justices, and secretly taking money from the Malaysian government to pen articles complimentary of them, has sent out a series of incredibly vile tweets aimed at popular late-night television host Seth Myers. While Domenech ended up deleting them, as everyone should realize by now the internet is forever and screenshots have survived.
Domenech, who runs the far-right rag The Federalist, called Meyers an “untalented piece of shit” who owes his career success to the fact that he “regularly gargled Lorne Michaels’ balls.” He went on to trash his personality, behavior, and talents. Apparently, the crudely sexual attack was in response to some comments Myers made on his show to Meghan McCain. Domenech alleged that Myers spewed “anti-Semitic bullshit” even though McCain is not Jewish.
Meyers criticized McCain to her face last night during her appearance on his show. Specifically, he drew issue with her breathless attacks against Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), calling them dangerous, which is exactly what they are given the way in which they tap into a virulent strain of Islamaphobia that infests parts of this country. Recently, McCain tried to draw a connection between the tragic synagogue shooting in San Diego and some of Omar’s criticisms of Israel.
“You once again, on a Sunday news show, brought up her tweets again in the context of that shooting. I do think it’s fairly dangerous, and you brought it up after Congresswoman Omar had also had some death threats against her. She’s obviously now stated she needs to be more careful with her language. Don’t you think people who talk about her need to be a little bit more thoughtful as well? Or do you stand by those comments of tying her rhetoric to the synagogue shooting?” said Meyers.
“I don’t think I tied her to it in particular. I think that I’m calling out what I see as anti-Semitic language,” McCain claimed.
“But you called it out after she’d apologized for it. I do want to establish the timeline,” Meyers responded.
Apparently, the incredibly tame and fair probing by Meyers was just too much for McCain’s husband to handle, who flew off the handle on Twitter. Check out the now-deleted Tweet thread below, and keep in mind these Republicans are the people who accuse liberals of being “snowflakes” who can’t handle criticism. See how easily they themselves fly off the handle?
He later offered an incredibly tepid apology that included more insults about Meyers.
I love my wife. I apologize for rage tweeting about how Seth Meyers treated her. I don't like him, I think he's a hack, but I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry to anyone I offended.
